Preping trim for paint - 10/23/08 06:46 AM

I have a 74 challenger and found an R/T hood for it. The problem is the hood is a 70 and the front trim (missing) is chrome or anodized plus it mounts different. It won't look right like that so I bought a repro trim piece and want to paint it. What will need to be done to it to get the paint to stick. I dought that I will be the one painting it but want to make sure I know how it should be done. Thanks Steve

If this is standard soft stainless trim you could most likely get away with sanding with 320-400 grit, priming with epoxy primer then painting. If you want to go all out sand with 180-220 grit, epoxy prime, build (2K) prime, final sand up to 400-600 grit, then paint.
