69 Dart GT Convertible (Now how much should I pay) - 10/20/08 12:29 AM

Going to try and pickup a 69 Dart GT Convertible and just wanted to know the possible production numbers on this car and your opinion of its options and rarity. It has never been tampered with still wearing its original paint but needing a complete resto so what im listing is what it really is. Looks like it was a pretty cool car in its day!

69 Dart GT Convertible
318 2 Barrel car (318 gone)
4 speed is still there
Red paint and red interior
Bucket seats 4 speed console with factory tachometer mounted to the console
8 3/4 rear with 3:23 gears
Woodgrain steering wheel

I don't know if you'll get a break down on those option. V-8 (318 only) GT vert 4spd will be the most detailed production number possible

The option and red interior makes it more rare, but there are no published numbers to get some exact break down with that combo.

If it's a project car, it's value over other 69 GT verts is roughly the sum of the individual used part value of those rare optional parts in their current condition.

318 4spd vert is rare.

There is a fellow club member that has a 69 GT vert 318-2v 4spd console, with air conditioning. Pale yellow car with original paint and interior.

Re: 69 Dart GT Convertible - 10/20/08 01:41 AM

Best info I have from Standard Catalog of American Cars for 1969 Dodge Dart is 20,900 Dodge Dart GT were built, 5,600 6 cylinder and 15,300 V8. I have one also, great project car, parts are still there. I'll agree with Steve that a 318 with stick is quite rare. GT was basically a trim package and not a performance package. I'd have it!!!

Only 264 Dart GT convertibles came with the 318
232 autos
31 4spd
1 3sod

I'm not sure if Frank has the break down of the verts on the GTS Registry. Click on the link in my signature and take a peek. You might check with Rhinodart here on Moparts, he's pretty knowledgeable about the Darts.

Be careful. Rare does not mean valuable. Not saything this car is not valuable. But it's not like a one of 31 Hemi car valuable.

Be careful on this one. My uncle has a 69 Dart GT ragtop that has been in our family since 1971. Many of these cars were coded for 318s but came with 273s. I think there was even some kind of lawsuit or something back in the day. Ours has a 273 auto on the column, R4 red with black top and interior.

Re: 69 Dart GT Convertible - 10/23/08 09:42 PM

1969 was the last year for a 273 and they did come in Dart GT convertibles. I have never seen an "F" code (318) Dart with a "D" code (273) installed from the factory, and I have owned dozens of them (no joke). The breakdown of all Darts are widely known. The Dart convertible only came in 2 flavors for 1969, GT and GTS. There were 1,837 Dart GT convertibles made and 417 Dart GTS convertibles made. The 318 4-speed is one rare puppy and IS a desireable car. I even had a 68 Dart 270 4-door with a 273 4-speed with factory A/C for awhile, so lots of unique Darts were made. That is an example of a rare but not desireable Dart, the one you are looking at IS rare and desireable! If it were a factory 3-speed, then there was only ONE made! Maybe not totally desireable, but I would LOVE to find that one!

Wow! Very interesting info that I never knew about the 69 GT convertibles! I have one that is a 273/automatic on the column, bucket seat car with factory air- number matching drivetrain 69K, all parts on car, needing a complete resto. Have had it about 20 years, thinking about sellin it. :-)

So my Dad went backwards when he built my Moms old car- It was a 69 GTS vert clone built off a 318/833 GT, It was red with white top and int and the parts donor was a low mile 69 GTS HT that had some severe cancer.

As far as I know it's still around in the N. KY/Ohio area, My Dad had got a call about it in '03 when it changed hands and I saw it at the nats in the mid 90's.

Well, out of the 31 1969 GT vert with 4spd's three are accounted for in this thread alone!

IMHO, the GTS clone is worth about the same as if restored to it's original GT status. Maybe even more? Opinions?

My wifes 69 Dart GT conv is a 273/904 console car. It has factory AC, and an AM-FM radio. It's a gold w/gold interior, black top car. She wants to do it as a GTS clone. B5 with white top and interior. It's a numbers matching car, but I'm gonna do it the way she wants it.

Re: 69 Dart GT Convertible - 10/26/08 01:35 PM

Well I can go get the car today but need to figure out how much the car is worth in its condition so I wont pay to much. I have a hard time holding back my excitment and dont want the price to be higher than it should. The car is a pretty solid Texas car has a small rust hole in the passsenger side rear floor pan and the driver side quarter panel needs to be replaced from a really bad attemt at pounding out a dent. I am going to post pics of the car here also.
Thanks!
Dave

Re: 69 Dart GT Convertible - 10/26/08 05:55 PM

Let's see four speed convertible, console tach, etc. If I was buying I wouldn't hesitate at $2,500, but I'd try to get it for less. Others might pay more.

Re: 69 Dart GT Convertible - 10/26/08 07:03 PM

Need to figure out and inventory the major/tough stuff that is missing. Does it come with the original trans and console shifter? I assume no motor? Does it have a buildsheet?

IMHO (especially with out the trans/motor/buildsheet), its worth the pedals, 4spd hump, used 4spd top plate, tach with base over plus 10% than an automatic 67-69 GT vert in same conditon. IMHO, the 67's sell for a little less than 68 and 69's in general.

There's three 67-69 GT convertibles for sale over at www.forabodiesonly.com

I agree. It is a project that taken apart. There will be a lot of missing odds and ends that will nickle and dime you. And that quarter panel is toast.

Re: 69 Dart GT Convertible - 10/26/08 07:15 PM

It has the original trans and shifter just missing the 318 motor. Havent looked for the build sheet so dont know about the sheet.

Re: 69 Dart GT Convertible - 10/26/08 07:47 PM

most A-body build sheets are behind the glove box. hovever my 68 also had build sheets under the front pass seat, rear seat bottom and under the console.

Re: 69 Dart GT Convertible - 10/27/08 12:13 AM

Let us know what parts come with it. I have paid $400 each for a 4-speed console and tach with wiring. Is all the trim there for the body/convertible top? It should have an 8-3/4 rear because it is a 4-speed, does it still have it? What options are included; disc brakes, power steering, am/fm radio, etc?

Looking at the engine compartment it appears as if that cars original color is Y9 Sunfire Yellow?

Re: 69 Dart GT Convertible - 10/27/08 01:46 AM

No the engine compartment was cleaned and primered in ye4llow and was never finidhed. the original color of the car is what you see its red.
