Is there a vin number stamped in the trunk lip of a 66?

Is there a vin number stamped in the trunk lip of a 66? - 02/07/12 07:24 PM

I was looking at a 1966 Coronet that is missing the VIN tag. Is the VIN stamped under the trunk molding on a 66 like a 1970? Thanks.

the vin isn't stamped in the body in 66. I'm sure you know this but the vin is in the door jamb and not the dash that year.

If that car has no VIN on the door jamb. Then pass it up. It's very hard to get a VIN plate for that car even from the state because the VIN# is not anywhere on the body. There is sequence # but the only way to verify the VIN from that is with a build sheet.

The Service Order Number (not the VIN) is stamped here:

The other way to connect the VIN to the SO number is with the IBM card from chrysler. Does this car have a clean title? The registered owner can send for the IBM card and this document will tie the vin and the body stampings together.

i am not sure which years apply but the data plate in the engine compartment has a 6 digit code that is also stamped on the radiator support and the pinch weld seam at back window /package tray--that number is also on the build sheet----some clone cars get exposed by this oversight---it is possible galen govier can figure out the actual vin number from the stamped production number?bob

If you don't mind waiting 10 years for an answer and paying $100 or more.
