Need help selecting speedo gear for OD 4-speed - 01/09/12 01:51 PM
Ok, I transplanted a 833 OD 4-speed into my '65 Valiant with a 3.21 gear and 225 70 14 tires. The speedo now reads much faster than car is actually going. I don't expect precision accuracy from a '65 Valiant speedo, but anybody have an idea which # of teeth on the gear wil get me close? I don't know if the OD is a factor, or just the change in rear gear.

there is a chart in the arcives IIRC
i think you need to check whats in there and most liky need a larger gear to slow the speedo down
I been grabing the gears out of the JY and have a few now,24-27-35-40 ect.

ok, this chart is great but it assumes 4th gear is 1:1. Do these ratios apply to an OD trans?

real easy way to get in the ballpark... assumes typical 26-27" tires:
Take axle ratio. Drop last digit. That's # of teeth needed on speedo pinion!
