My cuz is restoring another 340 71 dart swinger.
There is a unit on the speedometer cable with a wire coming out of it.
part # is 3458494
i thought it might be a mph to kph device but canada never changed to metric till 77.
Any ideas what this unit is ?

If the unit is mid-cable low on the firewall it's most likely the switch that activates a "need service" light at a certain mileage.

Good answer , the only problem there is that the dash does not have any lights or individual lights to indicate a "service engine " mode .
I will check again and make sure .
BTW would this be a rare option ? the 30 or so A bods that my cuz has parted out never had this unit .

It may be a gear reduction box for a low set of gears, IE 4.56 with short tires. My 1963 M.W. Belevedere had one on it from the factory with 4.56 gears and stock 14 inch rims and tires Can you post a pictureof it? If so do that and I'll tell you if it look like thoen I had

just checked the bill sheet , nothing on it to denote that it was an export car for Europe or anything that would be for a the mph to klm change . the car got a 2;76 axle so nothing abnormals . will take a pic tommorrow
