antenna 2008 Avenger - 12/24/11 05:58 PM

My radio reception is poor in my 08 Avenger, and of course, the first line of defense is a replacement part. I bought a Mopar rubber whip (like original, on the roof mounted Sirius/AM/FM roof-mounted unit), and naturally, the old one just spins on the base and does not come loose or unscrew.

Can I try some more "aggressive" means to get the whip off, or does this mean replacing the base as well? And if so, am I lucky enough that the whole base is done from the OUTSIDE, rather than removing the headliner, etc?

Poor reception? Is it the factory radio or an aftermarket radio?

Just asking because my Neon had great reception until I replaced the radio. Now I seem to loose reception in places my cars with factory radios don't.

That occurred to me...

As long as a couple of the buttons on my radio are broken, I just won a replacement on the bay to install, to rule out the head unit.

Digging around on the web, I still haven't found much regarding the antenna base and how it's installed. I suppose it's safe to assume it is NOT an easy replacement, if needed.

Got my replacement head unit today ($19.95 off the 'bay! ) and I wasn't aware at how many features didn't work on the old one! Stations are better, but still not up to snuff, especially for a 3 year old car.

Pretty easy to install the head unit! I bet it took four whole minutes to swap them out!

So, I'm back to my antenna question. Can this AM/FM/Sirius antenna be replaced from the outside, or must I drop the headliner?

A quick google search shows you will probably need to drop the headliner.

Where'd you find info? I haven't found a thing yet, but I do know that there are at least two different roof antennas and bases, and I'll need to get the correct one...

I just googled "antenna replacement on 2008 dodge avenger". One of the links was inhabited by Dodge techs (21 were online at the time). Sorry I should have copied and pasted the link. It's probably easier than Volvo electrical work...

EDIT I PM'd the link - let me know if it helps!

Is the satellite antenna separate from the antenna base? I saw two different bases in photographs, but http://www.makeitdodgeparts.com/accessories.htm only shows one base.

My goal is to get the AM/FM working like it should, but I want to retain the Sirius as well...

um you have the car, I don't That site I sent allows questions, etc. If I told you something it would probably be wrong anyway. If you're not in a big hurry I could come over and take a look. Sorry I don't have a late model Mopar to compare it to. Did you drop the headliner yet?

Sorry Tim, I'm not asking you specifically. I'm hoping a dealership body guy or other Dodge tech sees this.

But I appreciate your input!
