yep 1959. Nice boat for the day. 57/58/59 shared a lot of the looks but were yet a lot different. IMO the 59 was by far the nicest.

That's one of them cars that you need to see that speedometer in action. It does something weird IIRC, changes colors or some such thing.

This one won't do anything...car does not run...no brakes...etc.

speedo is ribbon type that does change.
Conversely, the all-new tri-color speedometer for 1959 could prove to be somewhat troublesome for colorblind drivers. With no hand to follow, the gauge is divided into three segments and speed is indicated by color in each segment. Specifically, green is displayed to indicate speeds from 0 to 30 mph; it then changes to yellow until the vehicle hits 50 mph, when the indicator changes to red. Motor Trend's March 1959 test stated that, after dusk, the gauge is difficult to read. 59 Buick had the similar type as did some others.

Definitely '59. One year only styling, and my favorite early Dodge. Great colors, too.

Not true - 57/58/59 shared body styling with the fin concept. 57 used a single head light arrangement with the inner being the turn signal, 58/59 used the quad headlights. the 3 years used different tail lights and bezels. 57 front 57 rear
58
59 - front Rear
As you can see they are of very similar body.

The M334 on the fender tag ID's it as a Los Angeles built '59 Coronet Royal.

I guess that I am showing my age but I really like the fin Dodges. The ones starting in 56 and ending in 59. more than the 60 and up ones. Probably my favorite is the 56's that were kind of the start of the fin Dodges.

Here's a pic of a '59 Coronet I started building years ago and never finished, my friend Sid bought it and finished very nicely.

The late 50s Dodge had the term "Swept wing Dodge" in their tv ads. I liked the chrome and pretty much all makes in the late 50s.

Chrysler Corp. had the tri color speedometer in 1948 I know for sure. 48 Plymouth coupe I had, the speedo was a normal clear light, changed to an amber up to about 55 and gradually started turning red getting more red the faster you got. Car would run 88-90 mph with the little flathead singing a song. This car was WAY ahead of Ford and Chev. of that time. Better ride, better driving, better brakes, quieter and most times as fast or faster that the ford V8 and defintly the chev with all being in stock form.

Wish I could return to that day and time for a while.
