Car is pretty heavy. If that weight is accurate and the converter is on 11.40 - 11.50. Tune it up and 11.20 - 11.30 is within range. I think you'd be hard pressed to get 10's out of the combo the way it sits. You don't have much for a converter, gear or traction so you'll be limited. You also didn't say if this will be full exhaust and what size or open headers. In fact if it's through a full exhaust 11.70 is probably going to be the best you can expect.

I am running TTI headers and full 3" exhaust with an H-pipe Ultra Flo mufflers. Do you think that free flowing exhaust would slow me down by 4 tenths?

A 3" exh system with Ultra-Flow mufflers and a H-pipe slow you down 4-tenths ? No way that system will slow you down 4 tenths. If the pipes are mandrel bent I say a tenth at the most and that only because its an H and not an X pipe. Ron

Thanks to all who responded. I guess we will find out this weekend. Would really like to see 11.80s or better out of it. I know my suspension, converter, and full exhaust will hurt me, but this is a street car first and foremost. I don't think anything in the 11s will be anything to be ashamed of. Most considered it a sleeper when it ran 13 flat.

I think you are going to be pleasantly surprised. Even with tight converter and full exhaust the only way you're gonna run 11.8 is if you get absolutely no traction. I ran a combo just like yours with full exhaust 3k converter in all steel duster with cage. Only difference is I had a 248@050 solid roller. Eventually got down to 11.0s.@122 and that was with a lusy 1.65 sixty foot.

My guess is somewhere between 11.80-12 flat initially.

I had a pretty similar combo years ago in my duster( which at that time with me in in was 3450 pounds( bench seat interior, all steel and a 300 pound driver)cage, etc, etc.

Same headers, different muffs, 248/258 crane cam( way to little), airgap, 727, 4.10 gears, 3500 10 inch convertor, several different carbs, a little more compression, and similar eddies( mine maxed at 275 on the intakes, so likely not quite as good) the car went best of 11.69 at that time, with a lot of fiddling around with it.

I went with 8 inch convertor, fully ported heads, 260/266 flat cam, changed intakes, and raised compression,( 12-1) hair less weight and picked up a whole second the following year. Those saying you are going to run 10's with your current combo will soon see it wont, but you have a nice deal there, good luck. Should pull hard.

With that cam and compression, and other factors, hook, convertor, etc, etc, i suspect about what i sad above at somewhere around 113- 114 mph...

Hmmmm....

My heads only flowed 265 and 180. Nothin killer there. Only 3.58 stroke so I had to turn it 8,000. You have a 4.00" stroke you can turn it considerably less. Your cam is close to what I had. Those eddies should be pretty good. Compression is not everything in my opinion. Flame travel is just as important. Your converter may be a power eating pig. If not I stand by the numbers I posted earlier. Mid 10's.

Is the plan to really only short shift it around 5000 or so, like stated in your first post. If so that will handicap the ET,s

All you guys saying 10.5,s, you saw that shift point didnt you. You couldnt have IMO

Your right, i take back my 11.80-12.00 thought, with that low of a shift point likely mid 12's

Seriously, though..i think that car , if its 3500 pounds, once sorted out extremely well could go mid 11's as it is, but high 11's at the point he is going to start at.
Takes a lot going on to get in the 10's, and with a not optimal convertor, gears, and a small cam( 4 inch cranks eat up a ton of duration) he has currently a high 11 sec combo.

If your heads are flowing around 300 as stated that car on a good pass should get you a very low 11 or high 10 second pass. I have a 422 inch smallblock in a 3500 lb car and have had a best last year of 10.91 and that was in stupid heat. I hope for a little better than that this weekend.

Question...

Those heads are without a doubt good heads.

As you spent the money for them, are you planning at some point to use the potential they have, because the rest of your combo is more suited to just using cleaned up Eddies.
Not picking on you( not trying to anyway ) but you have more " head" than what the rest of your combination/intentions is going to use.

I will guestimate 11.60 if you shift closer to 6500 dont quiet know why you would shift at 5000 to 5500 even on a new motor make sure you have enough jet and not to much timing and let it rip converter and suspension are going to hurt as you stated

The shift point was to go easy on the new motor. But from all of the feedback I am getting, I think it will get shifted at 6500 from the get go. Just have a lot of $$$ invested and was trying to play it safe.

so how did it run?
Id bet at 11.8 because of the fact that it is a street car.
What works on the roads dont work at the track.
Aldough 550 hp should get it ti go high 10s.

Tell us please.

I was waiting to see the weekend's best, but so far launching at 2000 RPM and no tuning:

60' 1.62
1/8. 7.32 @ 93.5
1/4. 11.52 @ 114

That was through closed exhaust all the way through A-Body tips.

We are pleased. What do you guys think?

Looks good to me.Where did you end up shifting it at?

What rpm were you turning at the stripe?

Did it hook?
