Need a new ignition switch for my car. I got a wells brand switch PN-ls418, but it doesn't have the same number of wires in the connector. Old switch has 7 wires, new has 6 wires. The wires are also in different slots. Anyone had this problem?

The only Carbs I care about are under the hood!

What terminal is missing from the wells unit, they're stamped on the back of the black bakelite ie "ign1" "st" ign2" etc. Since your not going original might locate a good used one and it'd b alot of work but worst case you could solder a female connector onto each wire & plug each one in individually depending on which wire/circuit is missing on the Wells but I'm sure you can find a good used one

I got one for a 70E from Year One a few years ago. Worth checking.

According to the 70 manual, there are only 6 wires coming from the ignition switch. The 2 extra 18ga red wires come from the key-in buzzer switch.

I have not taken the switch out of my car yet to compare them. I had my dad check his Challenger and it has 7 pins also, so I found it odd the new one has six.

Thanks for the pic, the indicator lamp location is blank on mine. The key buzzer terminals are blank on the new switch. Looks like the switch should work.

Here is an NOS 2947486 Ignition/Starter Switch. It is date coded 323 3, Nov 19, 1973.
It has a black 18ga replacing the original orange 18ga wire.
