I used to use Castrol Syntec, but no longer has the zinc levels. They recommend Edge with syntec, but 5W50, they said this had the zinc content.
They told me must say ok with Vintage on the bottle. BUT not available in Canada. Or is it?

What can I get in Ontario that will keep my engine alive?

Rotella T with a can of STP for me. If you want synthetic, the heaviest grade Mobile 1 (15W50?) has high zinc levels.

i use 15w-40 Rotella T with a can of EOS from a GM dealer. If I don't have the EOS on hand I use a can or 2 of the blue STP. The red STP had more zinc but I don't think you can get it anymore.

Brad Penn. Has the zink required for older motors. Sold only at some Stinson's service stations.

Whats the reason to use oil with high zinc content for older motors?

I found the answer; http://micapeak.com/info/oiled.html

Nice chart showing what brands have zinc in them.

Whatch EOS has been reformulated with no zinc as is mopar crank case conditioner (same product different can) unless you have the old stock from 6 years ago. a friend bought a couple cases before the reformulation.
Brad pen oils semi synthetic or good zinc additive like comp cams and others

Thanks everyone. I think I will use the additive, as I bought the oil last year at a very good price.

But in the future, what about Edge with Syntec?
What about 5W50 for a street driver?

I've used Syntec 5 50 for many many years.
Thin cold but retains it's viscosity hot!
in later years just added a zinc additive.

hears another that is good. Break in

everything has changed and most Shell Rotilla oils have been reformulted for Cat converters too. zinc has been found out to ruin cat converters and as a heavy metal gets in the air. EOS no longer has it but many say go get it it's what i use! It's my fear many use old data when a lot has changed the past 5 years! A LOT!!!

I heard the EOS in the round white bottle is still the old formula, at least in Canada. The one that's shaped like a regular oil bottle is the new stuff.
