Chassis inspectors don't like hammer tone paint because it makes the thickness readings incorrect with the sonic tester.

Word of advice, and recommended by por15, put the stuff on bare, do not prime first.

I had the cage primed when the car was painted because I didn't know what I was going to do with the cage. The door bars and cross bar were out of the car and did not get primed.

The stuff that was *not* primed painted and came out better. The guy that painted the car could not believe it. I mean, glass smooth. I hung the pieces vertically from the ceiling with some wire, that way it was easy to spin as you paint.

The cage in the car came out really nice too, don't get me wrong. There is just some dust and stuff that was in the primer, plus the por15 did not flow out as well as bare metal. Still super smooth, but I could tell a difference when painting.

Nice car But for some reason I thought you were building a Kam-Kamino

just FYI.....
Regarding the POR 15, its great stuff and you can apply it with a brush and watch your brush marks disappear.
Keep in mind for whats its worth, POR 15 is UV sensitive and if exposed to direct sunlight the paint will discolor. POR 15 sells a top coat that is UV protective called Blackcoat which will secure/protect your POR15 base coat color.
You can brush or spray it on and I believe its available in a rattle can also.

that car is too nice for por 15,the finish isn't the best and It won't last as long as you think.
It isn't much more work to mask everything off and spray it.you won't want to do it twice.

What are you talking about 'won't last " I put por 15 on my bare floor pans over 5 years ago and there is no ware or chips, a door bar might get some scratches from rolling in and out of the car but the rest of the bar will be perfect for years.

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

I just got done painting my trans with Chassis Saver
but I found out that its UV sensitive also, so
when it comes to painting the cage inside I need
to cover it with a clear UV enamel paint ... the
Chassis Saver is the same as POR-15 just cheaper
and thats what alot of the semi trucks use
