miles per gallon. I have a set but haven't done anything w them yet. You have a closed chamber which'll give you more CR plus quench if you build for it (I would & definitely on a mileage 318 build). Did a little reading on them & bowl hog (forgot the angle) and going from the 1.78 to a 1.88 valve was recommended & mild porting/deburring is always beneficial

302 heads are a good, cheap way to get a little more hp and they are closed chambered which is a good way to bump compression. The 308 head is the same head but had bigger valves. these were used on the 360's. these heads are good performers with mild porting.
The 308 head is not the same as the 302 with bigger valves.
As said, the 302 is a closed chamber head, that will give you an easy compression boost on a 318.
The 308 is an OPEN chamber head, just like any other 360 head. It is the best flowing iron head until the 1992 Magnums came into production. The main improvement over the earlier 360 heads is the exhaust port design. Downside, is that installing the 308 (or any 360 head) is going to drop your already low 318 compression even lower.
For a low budget, mild build, go with the 302's. If you have money to mill the deck, upgrade pistons, then go with the 308's. The 308's are typically much harder to find than the 302's.

the 308's are essentially a smog 360 head with a magnum exhaust port. the bigger pushrod pinch needed for the roller lifter's poorer pushrod angle induced some swirl into the ports.
the 302 is a closed heart shaped chamber, small valve 318 head. good for compression, but it flows as poor as any 318 head. max ported with bigger valves, they flow about the same as OOTB magnums.
magnums outflow any stock head save the X's, which they about match on the intake side, but outflow on the exhaust. with a smaller port (more velocity, which means more torque). they also have a nice small closed chamber with dual quench pads.

Hi, I wonder how good are the heads 302 (4323302) and I put some on my 318 and I have heard positive and negative comments, I would like to know the fifferences between 302 and 308 (which are better) as they relate to burn fast as i was researching and a page read that thanks

what kind of camshaft have a 69 340 ,because i want put one or similar in a 360 w magnum heads and hypereutectic pistons,,, how so good it is??
Asesino - What are you building, a 318 or a 360? Do you want fuel economy or HP? Magnum heads or LA heads? (there are a bunch of parts you need to change for that conversion)
Until you specify, the answers you get may not be suitable for your goal. (a 'just build a 408' response is destined to happen soon )
