Was the hemi spoiler ever offered on the 66-67 Chargers as a factory option or were they only available through the parts department? Thanks

I believe they came installed from the factory installed but only on a 1966....not a 1967. I found one at a swap meet many years ago (all three parts) and I remember researching it and if I remember correctly this is what I found out.

....there is nothing like driving my 1968 Hemi Dart around town and having people looking at you like you're nuts!!

They came on some '67 Hemi Chargers only, but not all of them. I have never seen any numbers on how many but my guess is a 1/3 of the '67 Hemis had them. If there is one on a '66 it was added as they were also available over the counter.

The originals were aluminum. There was a fiberglass copy made around 25-30 years ago but the way it mounted and the two end pieces were different. A correct repop was made about 5-8 years ago out of aluminum by some one in WA.

I owned a '67 Hemi Charger with a spoiler for 10 years. It was missing the broadcast sheet so I don't know for sure it came with the spoiler. AFAIK, the spoiler doesn't show on fender tags.

digging thru some old '66 Motor Trend magazines:

In the Sept. '66 issue - covering the July 4th "Firecracker 400" at Daytona.

It's the first NASCAR race with a spoiler on the Charger & Sam McQuagg's Charger won!!

In the Oct. '66 issue - '67 Charger "Don't fool with success..."

"..... is the inclusion of the spoiler spawned to cure handling problems at Daytona ....."

"This is standard on hemi-equipped Chargers, and optional through dealers on any others."

Although not "written in stone"; it looks like the spoiler was an accessory ("over-the-counter" parts dept.) by the end of the '66 model year (July '66)
& intended to be STANDARD on '67 HEMI Chargers at the begining of the 1967 model year.
