Hi

I'm updating the 8.75 rear of my '70 Challenger and bought a set of new Moser axles Part # A30-CST-E71
I was just wondering why they are informing at their web site that these axles will fit ONLY for 1971-1974 E-body and 1970 is excluded ???
So far I have not found any main differencies between the 1970 and newer E-body axle housings.

I have not yet installed these axles, because I have an other question regarding the axle bearing sets.

Moser is offering two different sets for 8.75 and Dana 60. One is with snap ring Part # 9400M and the other is without the snap ring Part # 9400RP
What is the reason for having available two different types of axle bearings for these Mopar axles?

Which one should I choose for my 70 Challenger, W or W/O the snap ring???

If these have something to do with the bearing set choice, I have stock 11" rear drum brakes and currently having OEM cone type sure grip, but will be updating the SG for Dana Power-Lok style SG from Yukon.

I haven't taken the time to measure the differences in the 35 spline Dana 60 axles and the 30 spline 8 3/4 axles at the bearings so I can't really make any comments on the results, it wouldn't suprise me that the differences is in the the I.D. of the bearings and the axle O.D. where the bearings are press onto . As far as I know the 1970 to 1974 E bodys and the 1971 to 1974 B bodys, if they had 8 3/4 in them used the same rear ends Eespecially the the 1970 and 71 E bodys on both the 8 3/4 and the Dana 60 BTW, my Duster uses a set of Dana 60 35 spline axles from Strange Engr. in both the 8 3/4 that I bent the crap out of and in the new Dana 60 truck housing that I had cut down and modified to use the stock 8 3/4 bearing ends on in the Duster Those axles have a set of the "race' green bearings from Strange Engr. on them ands have worked great in both housings Call Moser and ask them which ones they want you to use

'70-'74 E-body axles are the same length.

Go with the snap ring Green bearings. They are more durable than the first generation version with the crimped on flange.

Snap ring Green bearings are allowed to wiggle around like a stock bearing when used in a housing that is not perfectly straight.
