'08-down 5.7 has near unlimited aftermarket cam support.
'09-up 5.7 has basically no aftermarket cam support at all, unless you include the welded up, reground stock cams that are floating around out there....
It's not easy to delete the vvt from a 2009-up 5.7 shortblock because the front cam journal is huge, much bigger than the old style cam. The old style cam would fall right through the hole in the block....and as said the drive is different also.
It's much easier to get a 2008 or earlier 5.7, or a 6.1, and start with that instead.
for those that know these motors.. if i have a 08 or older block (non VVT) will all of my internals from the 09 motor fit the block sans a new cam and some valve train hardware? cheapst

I THINK, not sure, that your statement is correct. The block is the same except for the cam. I hope so, IF NOT there will be an even bigger gap in the aftermarket. Matt

TTI makes mounts for an A-body
You can get a pan from Milodon, or I had a pan made by Weldtech out of canada (i think) for the same price the Milodon was originally priced at.
Headers are made by TTI for both 6.1 and 5.7, not necessarily the most sought after for performance, but they fit nice for long tubes.

The Milodon pan fits nice!! if you put the motor in stock location. I moved mine as far back to the firewall, so I had to add a clearance pocket for the drag link.
I used a motor plate for mounting motor & I built my own headers, since I moved the motor around & put it as low as possible in the engine bay.

post some more specs about the car and the engine STEFF!
I am looking for a cast drag pack intake, but I am sure it is steep from the dealer, any idea on cost?
Looks very nice....

I've posted a bunch of pics in a few different posts of mine. You'll find them if you do a search thru my profile.
Drag Pack Intakes are about $1000. Thats what I paid thru Indy, as they were the only one that had one, when I was looking for one. I was going to get one thru Dave Hakim at Mancini for a little less money, but it seems Mopar doesn't keep them in stock, too well. Zippy can tell you if there are any in the system.

We also make these header flanges for those who want to build their own headers.

ok great so far..good info.. what is the consensus on header primary I/D and length.. do you step them at all or..? Steff yours look nice..i couldnt tell if you had a factory steering box or rack? i see the factory drag link...so ... how hard is it to fit in with factory steering column and factory box? is the current magnum mini starter the same for these motors? also anyone want to exapand on the XV ignition?
i suppose the cast intake is the only real choice..i was thinking 2-4's..fwiw. cheapst

I just went with straight 2" primaries to 3 1/2" collectors. I figured they may be a little big now for the stock cubes, but will be fine when motor is larger. I have the FAST stand alone ignition controller.....so far so good. MSD has one too. I went with FAST planning on going to F.I. in the future & will use the FAST XFI unit.
Factory steering Box & drag link etc.....it all fits fine. The #1 exhaust port was the only tube I had to work around the steering box, as I lowered & moved the motor back.
I'm using a Turbo 400 trans, so I have an Ultrabell & am using the standard run of the mill Mopar light weight starter.
I'm partial to the Drag Pack intake, but Indy's Mod manifold or Edelbrock's two-four manifold would be neat.
