34 isn't necessarily too low. I tried 36 and 38 and the car didn't run very good. Couldn't hear any pingin but I suspect silent knock. 34 ended up being very it runs smooth. I have a stock 383 HP and we have decent pump gas here. For now anyway

When I ran at the Pure Stock drags the people I talked to said to run as much as 42 on my 69 383HP , my engine was stock so compression was only 9.2ish , I compromised and ran it at 40 , and mixed some race gas in with the 93 I already had in the tank , it did pick up MPH after doing that.

Whats your cam spec @50, this generally dictates what your initial timing should be.

The motor is a bone stock OEM '69 Chrysler New Yorker 440... Now in a '69 Charger 500 with a 440 six pack on it.... Who would have figured?

Must not be very impressive with that 383 2bbl cam in it ?

According to information released by Chrysler years later, the production cams have a ramp that provides 77.7% of the advertised duration at .050, which would yield 199 on the intake side and 202 on the exhaust side (256/260 advertised). It seems about right to me, even though we know the 85 percent rule for the purpleshafts is off.

Now I need to pin those needles, got to feel that heat

....or you could send your unit to FBO and get their ignition kit. Easy, proven and relatively inexpensive.

Plus one on that. World of difference on my distro with my MSD-6AL.

In my iron headed 440, the more timing I put in it, the faster it went. End up in the 40 to 42 range, mostly because I was concerned about going any further.
