I'm doing a complete brake job on a '70 Super Bee with manual 11" drums all the way around. The front brakes did not have the auto adjuster assembly for the star wheels, yet the FSM shows a picture with the 11" brakes with the auto-adjuster assembly. And it is part of the assembly procedure.

I'm sure these are not the original shoes so is it possible they were just left off? It's been so many years that I've done a front brake job on a drum brake Mopar, I cannot remember if my old '70 Coronet R/T had them.

One other thing, the passenger drum is missing the spring that wraps around the drum.....what was the purpose of these? I've seen them on most front drums (Mopar anyway), so I imagine it broke off somewhere along the line. Can it be replaced? The drum is still good from a thickness standpoint, and it saves me the hassle of getting it separated from the hub.

IIRC correctly, no they didn't. My '68 Hemi Charger with 11's all the way around didn't have adjusters at either corner. I think it's a 10" rear drum / front disc brake thing.

My 68 road runner doesn't either. Sorry I don't have a 70 I could check.

I'm thinking this is the way mine are supposed to be as well. Maybe it was just certain cars (like Taxi or something) that had the front auto-adjusters.

I think it depends on the car and what brake package.

most will agree the performance cars did not have the auto adjusters.

However all the c-bodies I have owned with 11 inch drums did have auto adjusters.

So a superbee would probably not have any.

1970 B-body did have the self adjusters on 11" brakes, probably why the service manual shows them. I have a RR and GTX here with them on. The above post is correc the 67 and 68's did not.

I know the 69 rear from an R/T thats in my 65 dosent have them.I believe 70 was the first year as standard.Rocky

None of the 11x3" drums that I have seen have the adjusters. All other 11" (2" and 2.5") that I have seen did have adjusters. I don't know that I have seen any 1970 11x3 brakes, but my son's Barracuda has 11x2.5 from a 1970 T&C and does have self-adjusters.

thanks guys....I guess the consensus is "yes" for 1970 11" brakes. Mine must have not been put back on when it received its last brake job decades ago.

My '68 hemi rr doesn't have the self adjusters either. From what I recall they were an option.
