Okay- I have this 96 Dodge Caravan with about a billion miles on it that is my main transpo these days- got it cheap for island prices ( I live in Hawaii) and yesterday, for no reason, I turned the key and it went "click" and the windows would not roll up- okay, so I check fuses first- and it has some sort of jerry rigged set up to the ignition fuse on the block- two wires leading to a forty amp circuit breaker instead of the maxi fuse that is normally there. I put a stock fuse back in it- and it blows the fuse pretty quick, and I still get no start-y start-y or turning over of the starter at all. With the circuit breaker back in, the radio will come on and I can roll up the windows, but still no starter turning over!

Anyone have a 96 3.8 Grand caravan or worked on one with any kind of thing like this?

wouldn't that cut power to the entire fuse block? All the other items work- it is just this single fuse area that is creating havoc- even the under hood light works.

Here is another possible clue? The windows have always been rolling down and up very slowly- like it is getting not enough power to the window circuit, and when it quit last night, I couldn't roll up the windows. I am not sure why the mod was done, and I can't get ahold of the prior owner to run it down.

By 96 the fusable link wires were replaced with maxi-fuses. It's time to get a wiring diagram (your local library may have a good diagram in the reference section) and follow the circuit that is blowing.

The nature of this mod makes me think this is a regular fix?

It wasn't a dealer deal- it was some owner that did it I think- it has a 40a circuit breaker wired into the maxi-fuse slot=wierd

That indicates he kept blowing the maxi-fuse, but still wanted some protection. Still time to trace out the circuit by getting the diagram.
