In the moparts archives for rear axles.
Under "Axle lengths 8.75" shows 4 different lengths of housings for 62-70B's. Flange to flange.
Under "Rear axles widths" the chart shows a 55" flange to flange housing for all 62-70B's.
Soooooooooooo

little confusing

one of the charts has the wrong measurements, not sure what or which

I have a housing thats 55" and IIRC it came out of a 67 polara which is a c-body

but I have been told it an e-body also

it has 30" axles

I have not figured any of the 4 housing I have by the charts..I know what they came from but does not match any of the charts as far as I can tell

my 72 truck housing is same as a 73 c-body

Iknow my A-body housing

but this 67 housing has me stumped...not sure if it really was a 67 polara or what

I would give DoctorDiff a call to be sure

there is 1 area in there that is wrong (& has been for awhile) and from what I understand whoever is in charge of it has not corrected it and that several members have been led astray (& lost time/money) because of it. iirc it was the "16" or "17". I just remem it was one of those #'s. Sorry that's all I can provide (but it'll bump you btt)

The info in 16 is correct, the text info in 17 is mostly correct but the graphic is in error in several places as is the PDF file above.

There's a lot of bogus info out there, as you've discovered. I don't know why it can't be fixed.
I can verify these B housings from ones I've measured personally and still have.

B housing width:
'64 = 55 5/8"
'66-'67= 54 1/4"

I copied/pasted these from this page: http://www.moparts.org/Tech/Archive/axle/16.html but took out '65 because I've never measured one.

The overall width is axle+axle+1.5" and for 4.5" bolt circle overall is about 5" more than the housing width.

Will a particular housing width give a total (flange to flange) width of the bare housing dimention + ~5"?. using regular pass car/1/2 ton pu 4.5 BP axles/2&1/2" brakes)

Seems to me that the early Bs had different widths; my '63 is narrower than my '64, both are 8.75s and appear original to each car. Can't guarantee that, though.
It would be nice if the Tech Archive info was 100% accurate, but I'm certainly not perfect myself.

Don't forget to add .100" on each side for the brake drum thickness.

Typical 5 x 4 1/2" axle flange standout is 2.525" per side. This includes the thickness of the drum brake backing plates.

In other words, add 5.050" to the housing width, to determine (axle flange to axle flange) width.

Add another .25" to figure total (drum to drum) assembly width.

Wow thanks for all the responce. I'm not really doing anything right now. Was just wondering if the 65B was a one year only unit. Think I'll do some checking for myself. Have a 64, 65, 66 and 68 rear ends.
I also found what I think are some errors in the "rear axle spotters guide" under axle id as to what units came in what years and models. Still has alot of good info.
