I've got a '71 Charger S/E, non-tilt steering wheel that I just got back on the road. However, the turn signals on all four corners went out yesterday and I'm trying to figure out what went wrong.

-Turn Signals dont work front or rear. Fender indicators or dash indicators dont work either. No ticking noise is heard from turn signal as well.

-Turn signal switch is firm and disengages properly.

-Brake lights do work.

-Hazard lights do work.

-tail lights do work then lights are on.

-No blown fuses either.

I purchased a turn signal switch repair kit, but I suspect the culprit is in the wiring. Any helpful advice that y'all may have would be greatly apreciated.

Thanks!

It could be your flasher, it has a separate flasher for the hazards and turn signals. Good Luck! Ronnie

That's the first thing to try.

Thanks guys!

I just ran a circuit tester for the pigtail coming from the turn signal switch on the steering collumn. Everything shows power except the light green and tan wires for the left and right turn signals, so I'm assuming that the switch is the problem?

I really apreciate the help.

I'm not sure on that if the flasher is in line before or after the switch. Did you try a new flasher? I would eliminate that possibility first since that's the most common cause. If you don't have one you may be able to temporarily swap out the 4-way flasher to test it.

The flasher is in line after the pigtail connection that I tested and got no power. That would lead me to believe the problem is the switch, correct?

That would be logical as long as there is power getting to the switch, and you said there is so that's where I would look.

Flasher is before the switch and should have power. Why not just swap the flashers around and see what happens. I'll bet the turn signals work.

Or just bypass around the flasher connector and eliminate the flasher as a problem. Then of course the lamps will stay on, but you'll be able to tell what's up

Let's say you lost connections out at the front harness. The flasher may not engage the rear lamps. Can throw ya off

Do you have power at the flasher? Are you sure you are changing the right flasher? there are two one for emergency lights and one for turn signals.

I changed both of the flashers to make certain.

For some reason that I haven't figured out yet, there is no power at the flasher right now.

So far I have changed flashers, changed turn signal switches, and fuses without any luck.

I would suggest getting a wiring diagram from here and start tracing. http://www.mymopar.com/index.php?pid=18

Is the power wire to the radio connector still connected like factory? Power goes in to radio and a second wire comes out of same place to go to flasher. Don't remember if that flasher is turn or 4 way though. Lots of people cut the connector off to put in aftermarket radio and don't reconnect that wire for the flasher.

You said u checked the fuse , but did u check and see if there was power on one or both sides of the fuse. It could be that the wire is after falling out of the fuse block .
Your first priority is to make sure you have POWER to the fuse block . then steering column connector. If you know the "hot" wire going up the column at the connector , use a jumper wire from a known hot lead in your fuse box and temporally splice into to the connector and see what happens

This is exactly the mistake that I made. I assumed the black wire was the ground for the radio, but it turns out that it was the hot wire providing power to the flasher. Once I got power to that wire all was good. Again, thanks for all the help, I sure learned alot on this one.

I learned this one while working on a 71 Sebring I used to have. Had to wait to get a wire diagram before I could figure it out.
