Any idea what happened to the 70 I posted? He rolled the original 70 in Sept. 70. The one he rolled had a neat custom paint job and no vinyl top. I saw the 70 he rolled in mid 70 at Bonanza Raceway in Walla Walla, WA. The 70 I posted was at Bonanza Raceway in June 71. He gave me a ride home from the track, he mentioned that the original that he raced a few times at Bonanza in 1970 was rolled due to the ignition/steering lock. I saw the article that I think you posted that showed the aftermath of the wreck.

Hmm, It looks very similar to the setup in a very well known car in an earlier photo, is that where it came from?

This may cause a bit of flack but I bought this MOROSO cool can today.

My reasons were -

- It has to be very close to the correct era that I'm aiming for.

- It is a well known brand of the era that many racers used.

- It has 1/2" line rather than the 3/8" that many have.

- It has insulation, (I can't see the point running a non insulated alloy cool can, it would just soak in heat from the engine bay).

- The cork insulation is butt ugly (but functional) & I like the fact that some people will have a problem with that!

OK so I know this car is not a Hemi car & I think a pic or two have been posted earlier but I saw a post of Brian's ('72CudaRacer) on this site, Googled him & found his web site http://www.hammerdown.org/bvdracing/
Great pics & great story, this man followed his dream & that's exactly what I intend to, it may take a while but like Brian I will get there one day!
Enjoy Brian's photos & check out his website

Hey JRepucci, could you post a photo or two of the other brackets as well please, I have a pair of the brackets in your photos above but I have no idea what they should bolt to.

I don't suppose your parts are for sale?

Cheers

This is a Challenger from the 1976 Summenationals but it is a SS/DA car so I thought I'd throw it in.

Roof Chopped Convertible?

I read somewhere that the red on the roof was to disguise the fact it was roof chopped!

This car was in fact a real 1970 Cuda 440-6 automatic convertible converted to a 1971 car for the 71 racing season. This car was one of the EV2 white top promotional cars built on August 02 1969. There were 6-7 of them built for use to introduce the new Cuda model. Canada got Tor Red 440-6 auto Cuda convertibles and the US received Rallye Red 440-6 4 speed Challenger convertibles.

This particular car was a second choice for the Cloakes & Coates racing team as they had a 71 Hemi Cuda convertible on order for the 71 season but it was delayed so long on delivery they took this car off the Town & Country Chrysler lot and converted it.

At the time the car needed to have a Hemi VIN to race in NHRA SS/DA class so a blank VIN plate was ordered by the dealership and a 71 VIN was made up and stamped by a local Jeweler to make the car class leagal.

This car is still around today and is on Idaho. TheVIN states that it is a 71 Hemi Cuda convertible but the fender tag indicates it is a 1970 440-6 convertible!

Just another old race car in the day!

By -the- way, the original intended race car was loaded up and is part of Dave Blake's collection and is probably the best looking of the original 71 hemi Cuda ragtops, Orange/orange with white billboards. Shows around 20,000 original miles. And yes it did see some track duty as well back in the day! Another amazing fact is the real hemi car was sold at one time in a real estate transaction as part of the 'contents' of a home sale!
