If it's inclosed, 24' might be marginal. Here's what a 17' car looks like on an 18' open trailer. Uses it all!

Here's a Fusey Imperial on a 20' trailer. Your car will be about 5 inches shorter than this one. Ignore the angle on the trailer. It was a borrowed unit and I only had a drop hitch available. Notice the truck is relatively level. It's still a heavy car. A half ton truck will have it's hands full with that thing. You need to forget the whole trailer idea and just drive the car. That's what they were built to do.

i hauled my 69 newport in my trailer w/ NO problems! its a 24',plus a 4' v-front. 8.5' WIDE BODY is needed for any c body,so make sure to buy one. i also have 5500# axles=6lug wheels. the 3500 axles are crap, adding a trailer weight, plus car,and other junk in the trailer will overload them fast.also 4 wheel brakes and a good trailer brake is a must!i have tongue weight bars too,big help! i had plenty of room in front too. and for 350.00 i bought adrivers side escape door,to open the car doorthrough, for really easy exit. i had 7200 in the trailer, and i would do it again in a minute. i pull it with a 2500HD dmax,NO suv thanks once again; 24'x8.5 5500# axles proper mounted tie down locations 4 brakes and controller weight bars escape door DONT SKIMP

I agree with what's posted above ... my 68 300 is a tight squeeze width wise in my 28' X 8.5' hauler, a 24 box will be long enough if there are no cabinets in the front ... a 1/2 ton truck is out of the question for safety's sake

thanks for all the answers! I'm towing the car because I moved to a City 6 hours away; and driving back with 3.91 gears won't be fun...plus my new city only has a track 3 hours away; also need to haul my Charger back from Indiana (20 hours away) after paint.
Guess I'll be looking at a 2500, likely diesel. Was looking for a used trailer, but may end up buying new to find everything I need...
hmm...buying a 3/4 ton diesel truck and trailer.....or spending $1500-5k on replacing the 3 speed auto with an A518, or adding a gear vendors OD, or a keisler/TKO tranny, or the new passon 5 speed and driving it....I think I'd put the $$ into the C body so it's more comfortable driving distances, personally....moving from a hemi 1/2 ton ram to a diesel 3/4 ton will be about a $10k upcharge, probably twice what you'd have into an OD tranny in the chrysler if you went all new parts and didn't do the work yourself.

Upgrading to a diesel would give him a much better truck too.

Make sure it's wide or you'll be climbing in and out of windows... If it was me and the car's registered I'd take 8hrs for the 6hr ride and drive it home.
Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.
