Let me guess ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/1343795-scratchchin.gif) . You have no PCV system on it.

Pull the PCV valve out of the valve cover while the engine is idling and see if there`s good vacuum pulling thru the valve.

Pull the breather and if you see your valve gear, not a metal plate blocking your view you need a baffle

I made one out of the sheet metal from one of those old Hide a Key things you used to use to hige a key in your fender etc. Works perfectly to this day hehe.

Make sure that you have a breather on the other valve cover too. You have to have circulation.
Clean it, if it's Dirty. Oil it, if it Squeaks.
But: Don't fix it, if it Works!

Well you better quit driving it now because you do have a problem that needs to be fixed. Unless you are that ? and want to keep driving it. If thats the case why waste anyones time.

AND....if you put a breather in, DON'T get the cheapo 4.99 Chrome Mr.Gasket or similar brand breather 'cuase the stuff they fill those with plugs up real quick...like 10 runs and mine was plugged and blowing oil out the dipstick tube!! Put the old original "clean" '71 breather back on the covers and it's still going strong.....just missing that flashy chrome scene!!! I don't know what they use in those imitation breathers, but it's not much better than the cotton you find in an Aspirin bottle!!! ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh2.gif)
