The Passon unit and accessories are safely tucked away in my garage. It sure looks great! Its a lot smaller that the 200R4 I'm about to shoehorn in my '68 A-body.
Now I just have to pull my original trans, street twin clutch for a rebuild and rearend for a gear change and put it all back together to get things rolling.
The final car show with a four speed in this car is this Sunday, so it will begin after that.
1970 Plymouth 'Cuda #'s 440-6(block in storage)currently 493" 6 pack, Shaker, 5 speed Passon, 4.10's 1968 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible 408 Magnum EFI with 4 speed automatic overdrive, 3800 stall lock-up converter and 4.30's (closest thing to an automatic 5 speed going)

The other goodies. The shifter lever rods come fully adjusted by Jamie, and he was very clear about using electrical tape etc to stop them from turning on the adjusters prior to installation.
Kit also includes a longer speedometer cable which I will lube prior to install.

Loctiting the shifter pad in the e-body position. It sure feels lighter than the original.

another view sitting next to a Stage 2 (750hp/650tq) Extreme Automatics GM 200R4 with Lonny's (the owner of EA) CNC'd adapter ring and a bellhousing that used to be used to bolt the two speed racing Powerglides to GM's, Ford's, Big Block Mopars, Small block Mopars and the new Gen 3 Hemi's.
Notice how much wider even this small 200R4 is next to the Passon unit, especially by the rear torsion bar cross member location.
Even though the 200R4 requires the least massaging and fabricating of all the overdrive automatics, there is still some cutting and welding involved or the cross member, but on a dramatically, much less structurally impacting level and on a significantly smaller scale. The modifications are reversible too! If you ever want to go back to original. Check over on a-bodies only as the project progresses through the summer if you're interested. It uses no computer, is tough and requires only simple on/off 12V source to activate the lock-up, which automatically disengages when it drops out of foutrth.
I'm using a billet HD torque converter from Precision Torque converters. I guess I'm one of the first to go with the bellhousing method and the hybrid GM/Mopar style converter as opposed to the old Wilcat or TCI plate technique and a straight GM converter with adapters.

Back side. Notice the position of the rear trans mounts on both units. It actually measures out to 4 1/2" farther back on the 200R4.
You got to admit, this is two separate ways of going state-of-the-art for putting overdrives in old Mopars.
The automatic is goning in a '68 Barracuda convertible, with a 500 HP something hp 408" Magnum with fuel injected, SCT Tuned by Hemifever and will have a lock-up torque converter and a/c
The four speed is going in 493" with 3 mechanical secondary DC Performance Holleys. It's just a beast with slightly over 700hp at 5500 rpm.
I wonder which one will be quicker and faster. My best guess for both cars is the a-body weighs in at under 3000lbs wit 3.91 gears and 500+ hp just below 6ooo rpm. The e-body is in the 3500 to 3600lbs with 3.73 gears with 700 HP @5500rpm.
One of these days I will have to take them over to the metal recycling yard and get an accurate weigh in on both of them.
It looks like it should be pretty close, but the 68 will kill the 70 in the canyons just yet. More improvements to be made on the 70.
This is going to be good, but so much for buying a new truck for my retirement.
Except for the cold bloodedness of the big block at start up, it runs just as crisp and clean as the EFI car thanks to wide band tuning technology.

Mine came with a yellow breather hose that is mounted high on the firewall. Has yours got that? Also I never got the gear lever shift pattern decal. I still had to adjust 1-2 lever even after Jaimie sent it. Shift gate for neutral was not even and made missed shifts easy to do. Now all good. I used blue loctite on the shift lever threads to lock it in other wise they wobble around and wear over time. Don't forget it uses synthetic oil not Dino gear oil. I love mine and it is finally loosening up. Nothing but good things to say about Jaimie and the 5 speed product he produces. It will be kind of weird when you install as it fits just like a 4 speed. Also please remember to do up the speedo cable before you get the back end up to its position. First thing you will notice is the smooth and quiet running in neutral when you start it up.
It does not have a breather hose. I'll consult Jamie in a week or two and find out if I need to put one on there. Thanks for the update and personal experience with the adjustments etc.
There is an art to adjusting shift linkage and especially the mechanical clutch actuating mechanisms. The z-bar arms have to be perfectly lined up with the clutch's attaching rods on both ends for example. The connecting point on the z-bar and the rod ends have to lay flat, have no burs and be properly lubricated with the plastic washer installed. The more perfectly they square up to the clutch rod to the pedal assembly and throw=out arm, the better your clutfch will work. I also use a bit heavier spring to pull the throwout arm back off the throwout bearing(towards the front of the car) This helps a lot.
I almost exclusively use synthetic disc brake grease on almost every part of my car that takes lubricant, especially all those parts clutch Z-bar parts and contact points, and even super sparingly on the input shaft spines of the transmission and throw out bearing sleeve (I do mean super sparingly, like you almost can't even see it on the trans input shaft splines and throw-out bearing sleeve- you don't want it flinging off into your clutch friction!!!
It is the ultimate lubricant for most things that, move slide sin and rub against each other on these cars, including window tracks and mechanisms, and almost anything else the moves. It doesn't attack rubber, plastic, nylon or anything else, has an incredible temperature range, is exceedingly washout resistant, and has Teflon, PTFE, Moly, Graphite and other super lubricants mixed in it. Try it, you'll like it!!!

The breather hose versions were the first ones he shipped, then the vent was relocated and the new location did not require the hose for proper ventilation.

My official Passon install, rear gear change clutch rebuilding and front suspension upgrade project has officially began!
I started at the rear of the car, pulled the valence, then the rear end.
I couldn't quite get used tot he idea of an aluminum cased looking transmission so I cleaned it, masked it off, primed it with self etching primer, put a few coats of regular primer on it and will put several medium wet coats of Cast Blast, cast iron finish on it today. You guys can decide what you think.
I've never set-up a gear set before, but I have the tools, watched a lot of Youtube and have some good PDF's of what to do, and am going to give it a try....I think. I may just load it up in the truck and take it over to the rear end shop to have it done. I have too many projects on the stove right now. It really makes me happy though.
While the car is up in the air, I'm going to put in some 1" or slightly bigger front torsion bars, weld on the lower control arm braces and install a set of Hotchkis adjustable front strut rods. It mad such a huge difference in my '68, It was unbelievable!. It's like another car in the corners and still rides well.

Painted with the Cast Iron Paint. It's a subtle difference, but I think it looks even better than in plain aluminum.
