From what I gather, the main case casting has no porosity issues, the tailshaft castings were poured later and the alloy was changed by the foundry for what ever reason, rather than re-do the whole lot (probably a timeline and BIG money issue) I guess they're going to coat the inside.

I would imagine that testing the coating is what's going on now.

I knew a guy that had a small company. His MAIN business was painting the inside of aluminum engine cases for military helicoptors to eliminate porosity problems. I'd say it would be smart to paint the inside of everything.

Does this mean that the OUTSIDE will get issues with pinholes or ???.

Would suck to spend $5k on a trans and have the tailshaft look ugly. But I'd still take it.

Well,
Time for an update before the rumor mill creates it own update. The gentleman at the Fall Fling was Bob Reed. He is a friend of mine who agreed to pass out flyers and talk with people about the unit since I was never gonna make it out there for the show.

We have been wrestling with porosity issues with both the main case and the tailhousings. These are not a strength factor, it would be a leakage concern at best. However, still a very valid and important concern. We have been working impregnating the castings with a sealant. This is an extra step and time consuming. However, at this point, I feel necessary. We are also working on manufacturing the internal parts so that we can make a production run with all parts in hand. This is proving to be taking WAY longer than expected. However, the shops that we are working with are the best that we can find and I have decided that we are not in a position to go through a "learning curve" with other shops.

We have also had a few other small design "issues" develop during testing, and these are being remedied. I am very happy with each design improvement that we have made. It has made a better functioning unit.

As for what was said on the For A Bodies only forum, yes, I hurt the car BAD testing the trans. I just got it back from the frame shop and we will be installing a 12 point cage in the car to keep it straight. Then the unit will be going back into it and we will continue on. The awesome thing is that we didn't hurt the trans though. Believe me, I clubbed the hell out of it too.

Let me take a minute to say that I am very thankful for everyone's interest and amazing patience. It has been a struggle along the way here, but rest assured that we are doing our best to create a hobby changing product here. After all, where else will you be able to change your car to a 5 speed in an afternoon with NO cutting or fitment issues whatsoever???? It WILL be worth the wait!

As always, if anyone has questions, let me know.
Thanks,
Jamie

One question: What will the shift pattern be?

A)
R 1 3 5
.. 2 4

or

B)
1 3 5
2 4 R

Shift Pattern will be choice B. John RR, I was driving, I didn't wreck the car. I just bent the frame due to the VIOLENT 4500 rpm launches.

Jamie, Will the "B" shift pattern with reverse below 5th, affect those of us with e-bodies and the reverse column lockout rod etc?

Will it have to be disconnected to run your 5 speed?

Yes,
You will need to remove the lockout rod.

Jamie,

It will be a while before I move to the five speed (still have the 4 speed OD gear set I bought for my 833 from you). To all of those waiting:

What other company would delay incoming revenue to launch a new product while perfecting it? Most would start selling to get $ in and tell the early buyers sorry, or sell them parts to upgrade later.

Hats off to you guys for being putting quality first, and for your innovative products.

I hope you are able to bring more of your production internal, as that will be more parts that are quality first in the trans.

Stephen

I am waiting also for a 5 speed for my 73 duster, heres my question to all of you, Keisler is allegedly coming out with a perfect fit 5 speed for the A-Body sometime around the summer. Right now there is a speedo cable/torsion bar crossmember fitment issue they have to rectify.(I just spoke to them on the phone) If and when the Keisler comes out they claim it will be a no cutting, bolt in application for 1500-2000 dollars less than the Passon 5-speed. I just want the forums opinion on the difference between the 2 and which way YOU would go. 2 very different products that do the same thing?

I have 572 hemi in a 4100 lb 67 gtx and was told by Keisler that their trans would likly not handle the torque it puts out, so in my case there is only one choice and am prepared to wait till Jamie gets it ready. I am confident that he will have a fantastic trans when it comes to market and really appreciate the fact he is making sure it is ready.
I currently have Keislers A41 4L60 automatic in my car and it has failed to handle the HP & Torque. I also really believe you get what you pay for.

No cutting in an a-body, eh? Good luck with that. Proof in the pudding.

The Passon is basically the same design as an 833, so zero cutting whatsoever.

I also think in this case, you'll get what you pay for and believe the Passon will have much more abusive torture testing done on it than the Keister.

Really? Another no-cutting, perfect fit solution from the people who brough you the transmission "without" a 3rd gear shifting problem, who just recently came out with a new and improved transmission that eliminates the 3rd gear shifting problems that never officially exsisted.
