was also waiting for price , and thinking after seeing it about the movie used cars when he says THATS TOO ******* HIGH(youtube it). can i ask honestly what do you have ivested per unit. ill guess 300-400 in alum castings and 800-1200 in hard parts/assembly. was thinking this could be sold for 3,250 and still make 2x your $$. yes i know you have to buy large quainities of the parts from for tooling shop to make them and be worth while=lots of your$ invested. and i dont this this part adding any value to restored 4spd car. but i do think its awesome and fun part, for modified cars.

I have been following this thread for a while as well. 4250 does seem high when you hear it.... Let me say this first I am not rich at all however 5 speed conversions do not come cheap I was continuously messing up 727s and running 3500 RPMs going down the highway I bite the bullet and converted to tko 600 from Keisler! While it's a nice unit the pricing is let's just say more then you expect! If I would have had the option to go with this unit from Jamie for around the same price with less install work and hassle this would be the choice I would have made! No offense to shafi or gene great guys gene has helped me on the phone many times. However I like many others wish the price was cheaper but it's not far off of the rest of the group!

Hemigod,
Since you ask, the manufacturing cost on this unit with shifter and linkage is $3865. Please keep in mind that this was developed from a clean sheet of paper. We didn't take an off the shelf trans and try to make a bunch of crossmembers and bellhousings and try to jam it into a muscle car. These things cost money. Believe me, I wish it would have been cheaper to build, but the fact is that it wasn't.

I'm not gonna sit here and lie to anyone. we are in this to make a profit. Although, I love this stuff, we need to eat too. It seems that too many times, people want a stellar product and expect companies to design, develop and manufacture the product and not make any money.

Lets face it... If this was easy or cheap to do, then why has NO ONE stepped up to the plate yet? We were the first. Would I like to make more on it, sure, but I feel that $4295.00 is a fair price when considering the options. This is what we need to sell the unit for to continue the project. Most of the feedback I have gotten has been positive, some negative. That is to be expected. I just want everyone to know where we are coming from on our pricing.

I would like to take this time to thank everyone that supported us on this project and those that continue to support us. I realize that this transmission is expensive and it isn't for everyone. But truth be told, we are really right around the same costs as the "others" out there, and this requires no mods to the car. Also, it is a true afternoon swap. In my book, there is value added to the product because of this fact. Hopefully others will agree there.
Thanks,
Jamie

Damn...Mr. Passon gets called out and Mr. Passon speaks! This is why I have the Passon Performance # saved in my phone for years now.

Jaimie, you are the man.

Thank you and your team for all of the hard work it has taken to bring this product to market. I'll be in touch when the snow melts.

Do I wish they were less expensive? Sure I do! Who wouldn't? Will I still buy one? Absalutely, especially after seeing all of the other dissapointing choices (most of which cost more money to boot).

thumbs up!

I'll take one.

I like the gear ratios better than any other 5-speed out there.

Want to see it and bolted up and has some miles on it first.

$4300 is steep; especially since I still gotta get a hyd clutch cylinder, clutch plate, flywheel, and bellhousing (and cover), things add up fast.

But hey, gotta pay to play.

Hemigod,
Thanks for your understanding. I also appreciate that you didn't attack us. You asked a legitimate question. We had a legitimate answer. Things go so much easier when it goes that way. Truth be told, I can't believe that this post has not turned into a Passon vs. Keisler thing. I am glad that it didn't. As you know, these can get UGLY.

Anyone that is going to the PRI show, feel free to stop by and introduce yourself. we are at booth 1112. I will be happy to try answer any questions that you have. We are going to be out of the shop from tonight until Sunday night. Please be patient on returned calls and e-mails.

Also, a number of people have stated that they are interested in getting on a list for a unit. If this is the case, pm me with your name, phone number, and year and type of car that you have.
Thanks,
Jamie

Sorry if this was already mentioned but is there any warranty on the transmission?

"the manufacturing cost on this unit with shifter and linkage is $3865"

Can you define "manufacturing costs"? Does that include R&D or other sunk costs? I am trying to do some math since if your cost to make the trans is $3865, a 9-10% premium does not seem like it should cover your other expenses as well as R&D. I am just curious, what types of costs are lumped into the "manufacturing cost". Thanks Jamie!

The transmission looks great! Any pictures of the E-body unit with the shifter and linkage installed? The only downside I see is the price point, but being a truly bolt in unit that definitely adds value, as doing being built in the USA. Will the torque rating be higher than that of the Tremec units?

Just an FYI if the Mcleod unit does turn out to be a bolt in unit they will be stiff competition as they claimed at SEMA the price of their unit will be around $3300 for the Mopar unit, but they are having a synchro problem at the moment from what they told me at SEMA and I heard from another source they are getting into some litigation over the gears.

Torque rating is 650 ft./lbs. However, the design capacity for the unit is 750+. I am rating it at 650 now. As testing continues, it is likely that we will be able to raise this number. However, I am not going to go out and say that it can take "over 1000 ft./lbs of torque" like "others" have done. I would rather rate it conservatively and increase the number later than end up with a bunch of broken stuff.

For those converting from an Automatic, how much more for a stick shift crossmember and driveshaft? Something the "other" manufacturer includes.

Or can the automatic one be converted? Or are they the same? AUto/manual???

A note on manufacturing costs. Since we are looking to recoup the development costs over a period of time. We have absorbed these costs in the interim. Obvious costs are materials and machining.

As for the crossmember and driveshaft, you can handle the driveshaft at any local driveshaft shop. Different cars take different crossmembers, so there is not one crossmember price.
