It's too high for me because I can't justify putting a $4300 trans in a $3000 C-body.
x2!, only I have mostly A-bodies & B-bodies. Being that you reuse your shifter handle and belhousing/flywheel/clutch set-up and what you are purchasing is the transmission itself and the specific operating hardware unique to this transmission only I was hoping for a ~$3,250.00 sticker price and was pretty much expecting $4,750.00. Heh.

it's a RACE box meaning I don't think it has syncros, not going to be street friendly.

Just an FYI if the Mcleod unit does turn out to be a bolt in unit they will be stiff competition as they claimed at SEMA the price of their unit will be around $3300 for the Mopar unit, but they are having a synchro problem at the moment from what they told me at SEMA and I heard from another source they are getting into some litigation over the gears.
I thought the McLeod transmission was not going to be street friendly because it had no synchros?!?!
I guess time will tell if the McLeod is everything they have been promising for years or if this RS600 surfaces.
Congrat's to Passon on a making what appears to be a solid product. I really like how it looks semi-original (enough to fool most), and how you use the correct shifter handle of the vehicle it goes into for that original look as well. Too bad I don't own a forest full of money tress.

I dont know Jamie and never dealt with him but from the tone of his posts he is a true gentleman and someone that I will look to do business with in the future.
I have been collecting parts, information and pricing on two automatic to manual conversions over the past year. A 76 Corvette and a 1956 Dodge. I have a good idea of what things cost to do this swap yourself without buying a kit.
If you were going to use another 5 speed like a TKO and had to replace your bellhousing, clutch, driveshaft, install a hyd clutch setup, speedometer cable, crossmember, wiring, etc it will cost you about $2000. (I will share my T56 conversion spereadsheet with my research, prices an sources with anyone who wants it) plus $2200 for a TKO transmission. (maybe go with a T45 for about $1600 or so). So a bolt in swap that fits, does not require cutting, preserves original looks and can take high HP applications for the same cost is a GREAT deal.
It is a fact of life, manufacturing in expensive in the US and quality does not come cheap.
Here is an idea for Jamie............ go ahead and find a Chineese or Indian manufacturer and commission inexpensive knockoff and offer a second tier option. This way you can sell two, the first one when the customer wants to do it cheap, and a second one when they decide to do it right.

Is this transmission listed (or at least mentioned) on your website? I can't seem to find it.

You're joking, right?
Also, you have China do it, they'll just steal the specs and then ProComp or Eagle will sell it as their own.

Well all that they have to do is buy one and reverse engineer it like they do with everything else. If someone was inclined to copy the part its quite hard ($$$) to stop them. welcome to the Global economy. Scott

Jamie, Thanks for posting the price and being so free with information that you as a manufacturer have absolutely NO obligation to share. I think it's a fair price considering. Some of us will just save our $$$. I hope the guys with the bucks step up bigtime and buy.
One thing I love about old mopars is the "Snick-Snick!" feel of the hurst shifter. I'd rather have that feel than the foreign feel of a modern T-5 trans and shifter.
I’m listening.

I'm considering getting one and I have "just an a-body" the car is suppose to be fun and a 5-speed would be icing on the cake.
You only go around once and I don't find any of the other options appealing.

I have experience with jammie from back into the 90's and never had a bad experience. I believe this 5 speed will be a good unit and look forward to buying one as soon as i can. The fact that he is sharing his cost with us here is something i dont even think anyone would expect him to do, no one else would have. my opinion is that if someone thinks its too much just dont buy it. Thats what i tell everyone who complains about my parts. When you do the best job you can building something and are honest about everything and some one complains its too much its easy to tell them to buy it some where else because you have nothing to hide and more than likely they are the ones who ,if you finally convinced them to buy it , would come back complaining and making life difficult because they are upset that they spent the cash on it and some how its your fault. I have a T56 in one of my cars and have installed a tko 5 speed kit into a dart. I would still pick this 5 speed over both if it works like it sounds like it will. just my opinion for what its worth

The people that would really benefit from this transmission are the people that already have an 18 spline box in the car now. There are so many guys out there with 4.10 gears in the rear that don't like to drive long distance because of cooling problems and or fuel consumption issues.Enter the Passon 5-speed now you can stab this tranny in your HEMI GTX with a 4.10 Dana and drive it ANYWHERE! All you guys whining about transmission cost obviously haven't priced a "strong" gearbox that will take an extreme beating and still come back for more. I put a Richmond in my car because there wasn't an option like this available at the time I have over $3000 in the trans and all the stuff to make it work in my car with some extensive modifications to my torsion bar crossmember all of which all could have been avoided with this wonderful tranny Now if I could only sell my Richmond to buy this new box Thanks for all of your hard work and dedication to bring your vision to to life Gus

I just read through this entire post and I'm surprised how civil it has stayed. I almost choked on my Coke when I saw that the markup is only 10%. That is almost unheard of, most every other manufacturer would be at least 25%. When I worked at a Dodge dealer they added 10% to the RETAIL price. Jamie has produced a top notch piece that fits without cutting and is Made in the USA, all I can say is GOOD JOB.

Jamie, I've been gathering parts just in anticipation of the release of your tranny. Wish it cost less, but I think the price is fair and I will save up until I can afford one. (I think I will have the bucks by the time you actually release it in late spring.) I'm doing an auto to stick conversion on a '70 SB Dart. I'm going to need a clutch and flywheel. Can you give me some idea of what you would recommend and what the cost would be? I'm going to run a hydraulic system to actuate the stock fork and bearing. The motor makes 335 lb/ft and 317HP at the rear wheels. Might "grow" to 400 someday, but that's about it. Also, what are your thoughts on running an aluminum flywheel? It sees mostly street (and the occasional CA canyon) driving. Drag strip once or twice a year just for fun. Just trying to get a feel for what the total price is going to be. Thanks! Matt

4300 wouldn't seem as bad if we hadn't given away all the good paying jobs for the masses to a place with ZERO standards for anything.
Compare to the cost of getting an 18 spline, getting it rebuilt, and this really isn't too bad for all new parts made where we value standards for many aspects of life and also take some pride in what we make. Or used to that is.
I concur. I think if there's a viable alternative to a Chinese product that is made in America at a higher cost, we should always, within our means, go w/the more expensive, American product.
We need to support our fellow Americans; we'll be all better off.
The Wal-Mart mentality of buying everything as cheap as possible is destroying this country.

I agree with the above statement. $4,200.00 is a far cry from $2,500.00, but your opinion is noted. I'm sure $2,500.00 is reasonable to almost anyone, but $4,200.00 is more then some of us have into some of our cars. I'm not saying it isn't going to be the best choice for for restored Mopar. Just like everything else I buy I want to make sure I'm getting the maximum part per dollar spent that best suits my particular wants. Sometimes that means I don't need the best piece on the market.
I am not here to ruffle feathers or to play the flip side on every situation. I also apologize for going off topic now that this thread has been moved, but the whole buy American or nothing is getting a little old at times. Don't get me wrong, I love and served for this great nation and given the choice between two products of similar quality/price I'll buy the American made product everytime. But with (say) vehicles, why would I spend my hard earned money an inferior vehicle. It's no secret that the import vehicles are years ahead of the domestics in terms of pretty much everything. The good news is for the first time in a long time at least a couple of the domestics are waking up and starting to actually build some quality made products to compete globally again. My only gripe is when is Chrysler going to follow suit? America needs to get back to making superior products that can compete at global prices. In my opinion we still have a ways to go.
