red with a white plastic plug you can undo?
thats not the fuseable link connections I am refering to
at the rubber triangle one of the wires goes over to dist..blue I think
may have burnt the circut print board on the gauge cluster and got the smoke in the dash
85 have all plug in stuff on the cluster/print board and is not like the early amp gauge that has 2 wire bolted to it..those are know fire starters and mopar kinda fixed that by 85
but most 85 ones the guage never moves anyway,at least none of mine have

I can take a few pics of my 85 truck and the splice work I did to the wire harness
I swaped in a pertronix points conversion and jumper the BR for full 12 volts to conversion and leave the ecu un hooked
did mine 5 yrs ago and never had a problem after that, went thru a couple alt before the swap also
i fixed 2 wires at the fuse link connection
in the pic you can see 2 wires I have as jumpers on them to get home
the big looped red wire on the inner fender
I used some speaker wire and after a few weeks it would burn the ends off and have to retie them
bumped it up to 2 speaker wires and it stoped burning them till I got it spliced correctly
