This is a great topic,I am putting together a 68 440 for my 65 Coronet,my plans are for, 68 440 block that has already been bored .40 used MP 509 cam cast flat top pistons fresh stock 906 heads with good springs Melling pump and a windage tray 10" street fighter SS springs and 391's
Any advice on a carb, intake and ignition setup would be greatly appreciated.
you better have cut your heads or your block. Most cast pistons are way down in the hole and that 509 hates low compresson. Try a different cam.

You can do it with 383's and SB's but it will cost you much more.
Not here. Paid $600 for my 340 engine, tore it down, replaced the rings and bearings and put it back together. Still has the factory rods with good bolts, and the original X heads. Added a Comp XE274 hydraulic cam, an Airgap intake, a 650 Holley, PTC 3,500 converter, SS springs, 3.91 gears. Ran 12.91 @ 103 mph with less than $2,000 invested in the engine. Car is heavy for an A-body too.
I meant in a B-body
Not here either!! STOCK OEM 383 shortblock,906's cut -.030,old Mopar street hemi grind cam, double roller chain,933 Mopar springs, valve job, TM-6 ,Holley 750 DP,Accel BEI ignition,1 7/8ths Hooker headers,4.10 gear 28" tire and 4-speed with Zoom clutch, ran 12.70's all day with M&H Muscclecar tires.Dad would hook the mufflers back up Sunday and drive to work M-F.
Nautilus Racing- We use Superformance gaskets and Turbo Action converters/products.

Wanna come tune my car?!
Funny you said that, as I was going to add that the results were after tuning, adjusting and changing stuff for a few years and probably 150+ passes at test and tune.
I have helped others and enjoy that as much as anything.

Well, I've apparently got way to much into my motor to be as slow as it is, but here's my entire combo that has gone 12.39 @ 110.
1967 Plymouth Satellite, Full interior, 3770 lbs with me in it. 400 block, .040 over Forged 413 RB crank, (452 cubes) Scat H-beam Rods KB Icon forged pistons - 10.25:1 Mahle plasma-moly rings (bobweight: 2314) MP windage tray OTB Stealth heads with 10* locks & retainers, & Engle double valve springs (350 lb. open) Engle KV-3 solid flat tappet cam: square 252* @.050; .573 lift; 109* cl, installed straight up. Performer RPM intake Holley 830 cfm DP jetted 78f 84r MSD Digital 6+ ignition w/ Mallory Mag-breakerless distributor - 36* total in at 3k. Hooker Comp 1-7/8" headers to 3" dumps, down to 2-1/4" full exhaust with Flowmaster 40's ACC 10" 3500 rpm converter 727 with Transgo Stage 2 kit 8-3/4" w/ 3.91:1 gears; sure grip. Stock suspension with SSM lift bars, and Summit adjustable shocks CE bolt in Frame connectors, welded in. Hand-me-down 28x9x14 slicks mounted on 14x6 rims.
I've made 10 passes and haven't really done anything except mess with the jetting a little. I love the car, and am proud of the motor I built for right at 5-grand total. I am plenty confident that there's more in it, But I'm frustrated with what I see here..... i.e.: a lot of guys going WAY faster than me, with way less motor. I think that a set of better tires on the right rims will help a little, as its pretty skatey on the current slicks.
I think my combo SHOULD be somewhere near the 11.70's. I figure I'll have to make about 114mph to get there though.

Running 12's with a big block, especially a 440 doesn't take too much work.
My very first 440 car was a 1968 Coronet R/T. I took the stock 440, rebuilt it and only added a MP 484 lift cam, aftermarket intake, holley carb, and headers. With the stock 3.23 gears, I was running 13.3-13.4 & 103-104 mph in a full weight car.
Wanting to get into the 12s, I had the heads bowl blended (mild port job) and added 2.14 / 1.81 valves and changed the camshaft to something a tad bigger, I think it was the MP .509 lift cam. Same intake, carb, and exhaust. I did add 3.91 gears. Next run out, 12.49 @ 108 mph.
Finally, I dropped on some Edelbrock Heads, a Solid Tappet cam from Hughes and crane roller rockers. I also removed the stock steel hood, and added a year one fiberglass six pack hood to save some weight and look aggressive. I moved the battery to the trunk as well. I ran a 11.9 @ 114.5 mph the next time out. 60 ft times were 1.75.
