is it just me or is it a bit stupid california will now allow me to smog my honda with an engine swap in it, i have to swap back to stock, even though my new built engine passes the sniffer test for the original engine!!!!!!

sorry i know its not mopar, but this car has got me putting my 68 cuda on hold-

a honda that runs 12 and gets 24+mpg...

so now i have 6 hours of work to do just to turn around and have to swap it again because im not okay having 100 hp when i have a 240 hp engine sitting there ready to go!
thanks for letting me vent

I'm surprised you haven't been POUNDED by these guys for this...Honda...

But serious, that's the most INSANE thing about the CA (and I'd bet other states) smog inspections. Who cares if it's not "stock", as long as it sniffs clean. Isn't that the point: CLEAN AIR? I have a friend with a blown 351 in a 89 LX Mudstain notch. Actually sniffs CLEANER than the OEM 5.0, but every 2 years he does the swap to get re-inspected...

thats what im screaming, and the worst part is since i tune my own stuff with an aftermarket standalone setup i get it to run cleaner too, but it does not matter in cali!!!! I actually can get it to run as clean as a partial zero emissions (PZEV), so even though it runs cleaner than it ever did i cannot do the swap "legally" stoopid...
hey i have a rb 543 cuda- stroked, roller, alum headed car, but hondas get mpg, and do it all the time with no worries about reliability....
make fun if u want. i can take it. ill still be driving a 12 second everyday, all day... thats all that matters in the end.

Not to things up, but you know the smog rules for CA, yet do a swap and then complain when they dont let it slide, why not leave the honda stock and save the speed part fund for the barracuda?

if it sniffs clean at the station, how do they know it's not the factory engine? because you're running stand alone EFI and the factory computer won't register anything when they plug a computer into it?

is there a way to switch the EFI stuff to run on the factory computer for a day in order to pass the test? or rig sensors up to the factory PCM to fool it into thinking it's controlling the stock engine and not throw CELs even though your stand alone unit is doing the work?

as far as the laws in cali...sorry...I'm not allowed to discuss politics here!!

i have the speed sickness, i got the honda totally stock and it got 35 mpg,but was slow. i could not stand driving it. every car i own has to get performance enhancing things....

Tom, no my barracuda is blue, with a gray cowl hood. its been parked for a minute now. i have all stainless braided fuel lines and i am looking to go push twist lock, so it been sittng with no fuel system.
