Everything else stays the same. 4.10 gear. 3500 stall now, not sure what the 5 speed ratios are. 4100 lb, 10.89 @ 126 best. Slicks are not now and will not be used, only sticky M/T Drag Radials. Not a race car, just a streetcar. What are your thoughts? Thanks.
Oh ya, and thought on the guy shifting, just call him Polish Power Putski, the Manual Macho Man. I might be asking Mike "the man" Laboda for set up pointers.

I would call the company selling the 5 speed and ask them what they think of using it for drag racing. Liberty trans?

We did just the opposite on my buddys truck. We went from a 5 speed in his 95 Dakota with a 414" small block to a 904 with a good 10" converter. The truck ran a best of 11.9x @ about 115 mph with the 5 speed and dropped to a best of a 10.80 @ 123 with the 904. Just couldn't shift if fast enough with a regular hydraulic style clutch. Maybe with a pro shifted tranny it would be a better comparison but with a regular clutch assisted type 5 speed the auto with a good converter will be significantly faster from what we have found.

At 4100 lbs. you better be prepared to buy an expensive clutch set up or up grading to some super duty other drive train parts.

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

Not really....my dad runs a 4000lbs RR with a centerforce DF and around 550+hp. Just let the tires spin a few revolutions at the line,...the rest works fine. Stock 23 spline A-833!

I'm getting ready to take it down to Keisler's for the first install of his new Borg Warner HD American Made 5 speed. It won't be race-specific, but he knows I'll be rowing it a couple of times a year !! Wow, Chris.. thats a nice tranny. I'll find out the ratio's today. Maybe Gene can chine in.

my guess is the car will slow down at least 3-4 tenths with the 5-speed vs the auto.

I don't think you will find a drag radial tire that will work fine on a stick shift car with any power My choice would be a high traction street bias ply tire like the M/T ET Streets(big ones ) or a similar Hoosier street bias ply tire. I have ran both the M/T Et Street Radials and ET Street bias plys on my street car with the automatic, the bias plys work way better on the street than the radials do I had a stick shift low power(ran in the high 11s) 440 six pak Challenger, no traction with BFG drag radials, had to slip the clutch to prevent frying the tires Once the radials break loose they spin up really fast and won't recover unless you let off or shift into the next higher gear, at least on my cars The radials are faster than the bias plys on a good track, not so on a bad track

Who cares if it slows down, the 5-speed will be way more fun, especially on the street. I have no regrets putting a 4-speed in my Dart.

My sentiments exactly. The car will be mostly street driven. Even if it slows down a bit, and I'm not sure that will be true, you will have a hundred times more fun with the car. There is no way to compare the direct-coupled feeling of a manual transmission to the "slushy" feeling of a converter.
When you go cruisin', you won't be able to wipe the smile off your face!

I agree, I say go for it! I usually don't believe in slowing cars down but I think you'll have a blast with the stick shift. I also agree with the QTP's or ET Streets, drag radials will be a big challenge.

Rick I am a little worried about the choice of gearbox with the torque and weight of your car
I sure hope you got some sort of warranty with that box because I know when your car hooks it will be the PURPLE PUNISHER on that T45 even with the internal upgrades.
As far as cutting the car up,it's a "keisler conversion" "no cutting required"
I wish you luck my friend IMHO you need a weaker(custom)clutch or a stronger tranny been there done that...
