Im having a problem with the car dying on the line.

This has only happened 2 times this year.

When i bring up the motor on the 2 step, it hits it a few times and the motor dies instantly. This is before i release the button .
After that i put in park and the car starts right up.

So then i just footbrake it and the car runs fine.

Has anyone had this happen?

its a msd soft touch + 2 step + chrome box

Low voltage to ignition possibly? I had that happen but was running an MSD 6 AL, Isolated my 2 batteries, 1 to electronics and 1 for everything else and it never was a problem again.

Msd suggested running a lone 12v hot to the 2 soft touch .

i might try it and test the brake in my garage next week about 10 times .

The neighbors will love it

So it dies after you go to WOT? What rpm do you have the 2 step at? I know my car doesnt like being on the 2 step at WOT under 3000rpm.After the pump shot is used up there isn't enough signal to pull the fuel out of the bowls. Could this be what is happening?

I've ran a +.030 340, a +.030 360 and currently run a 4.040-3.790 388, and I've left with all of them from 2100 to 3000. FYI.

It depends on the setup. For example if it's overcarbed, it will be more likely this could happen. Your results may vary!

I had your exact same problem when I tried a transbrake.I run a stock 9375 Dominator.Went up and down in squirters, different pump cams, etc. all to no avail.Threw my dynomax bullets on while trying in the garage. That helped some, but what really fixed it was a 'shear' plate,a tapered (7 degree,I think)spacer that goes under the carb. It's designed to boost the signal to the carb and help the motor pull fuel. Not saying this is your problem but it could be worth a try.Good luck.

so 67 , did your engine die instantly like i described?

what squirters / cams did you end up with ?

the 1st time i was on the 2 step for a long time,4-5 seconds .

the 2nd time i was on it maybe 2 seconds.

the other 35 passes it ran fine.

Yeah mine died before it even reached the chip.It was pretty bad.It was ok if I put the throttle down slower, but I couldn't overcome years of matting the throttle the way I do and go slower all of a sudden.I ended up running what the carb came with..35 squirters and yellow cams.I could footbrake it with the 2 step button on the brake pedal, and it would be fine(before I tried the shear plate). My motor went on the chip alot quicker with the transbrake,so I figured with my setup, which is a 4500 base M1 manifold, that it wasn't pulling fuel from the carb like it should.

I was thinking about this today (while staring out the frozen window) - nobody i know runs a shear plate and their cars DONT stall like mine has . So i cant justify buying a $90 carb spacer. i appreciate the idea 67 , but....

without throwing $ at it , i might try different pump cams and squirters

anyone else want to throw some ideas around ?

The ecclerarator pumps don't really matter on t brake car, on launch .

Unless you are bogging going into full throttle .

Raise fuel bowls up some might be running low on WOT .

Also try not getting into 2step as long or wait as if tree is coming down .
In a bracket handicap 4sec is a loooonggggggg time to be on brake .

Good luck .DR

I forgot about this post !
The problem was I was on the brake too long----running out of fuel .

I changed my technique during 2011 and the problem was eliminated .

Thanks guys

You need to spend some money on the heating.

Come to Arizona and go racing on New Years Day! When I lived in Pennsyltucky, I really envied the people that could race over the holidays...now I am one of them!
