I have recently gotten some overheating problems the more i drive my 68 charger this summer and realized i have a 22inch 2 row radiator for my 440 and was wondering if I NEEDED a 26 inch and if this might be my prob? Also if my heater lines were blocked off would it cool my engine more so coolant would only be going through the engine? or does it not matter?

Thanks

A buddy of mine has a '69 Charger. He contacted U.S Radiator www.usradiator.com They make a 4 core with all the factory dimensions and looks of the 22" and 26" rads. His car never gets hot even when sitting in the Carlisle traffic. I haven't looked into it much yet as my Dart never needed one. I recently acquired a '70 Charger with a 440. The guy gave me 3 extra rads because he said the car always overheated. So now I'll have to check usrad myself.

Ok, but does a 440 NEED a 26inch rad? or is a 22inch ok?

The difference between 22 or 26 isn't the point. Its how many cores you have in it. My older 440 engine in my Coronet would run fine on a two core 22" Radiator, but when I rebuilt my 440. I needed to recore my radiator into a three core one. I don't have issues with heating at all

I run a mild-build 440 with a 22 inch rad--as do THOUSANDS of others. I do think the system has to be in good shape. Rad must flow well, you want a high flow stat, spring in the lower hose, no underdrive pulleys, fan shroud, GOOD fan, rad support/hood seal. It should be OK.
