When using Rust-Mort or rust converter (the clear looking stuff)- What is the proper way to apply it?

I have applied it before, but it dried and had a white chalky look to it? Do you brush that off and is that normal??or did I totally do it wrong?

In 2001 when I got my Charger, it had a shredded vinyl top and had some surface rust. I used the Rust Mort and had the same results that you did... the white chalky surface. I sanded it after it dried and applied PPG epoxy type primer. The roof looks as good today as it might have in 1970 when the car was new.

Thanks!

Guess I just need to sand and hit it with some epoxy primer, then call it good. Would it be better to hit the Rust Mort with 80 or 120? 80 maybe to rough??

I block sanded it with 220 wet/dry, then wiped it with a tack rag before primer.

I switched to Eastwood's rust converter, I found the SEM's Rust Mort has a gummy residue. Or use POR 15's Metal etch, it leaves a phospherous coating.

When I used it on my dart, I would try to get the area as clean as possible (bare metal), put the rust mort on let it set but not dry and then wipe down with water to stop the etching process. A quick wipe down with IPA and then acetone and then its ready for a skim coat of filler/sanding /priming,D.
