My Dad bought a 79 Jeep J10 with the 258 6cyl. The power steering pump appeared to be squealing when the wheels were turned. I checked it out and the belt is very loose. I looked at this crazy setup for about half an hour before I ever started messing with it. The pump unit itself has 6 bolts. 4 in the front and 2 in the rear. The pump bolts inside of a bracket, if I loosen all 6 bolts on the pump it doesn't help with the adjustments a bit, and I can't figure out how to get the bracket loose. This thing just does not make sense..........help me here guys!!

Try Googleing it. Ask the question a bunch of ways to get the best results. I find lots of info that way.

1970 Plymouth 'Cuda #'s 440-6(block in storage)currently 493" 6 pack, Shaker, 5 speed Passon, 4.10's
1968 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible 408 Magnum EFI with 4 speed automatic overdrive, 3800 stall lock-up converter and 4.30's (closest thing to an automatic 5 speed going)

Does one of the brackets mount to the front of the pump, behinde the pully, if so, did you go through the pully and loosen those bolts? I'm not familiar with jeeps in perticular, but some setups are this way. You can go to your parts store and look at a new one to get some ideas if you just can't figure it out. There is probably just one bolt that you couldn't see. Get a small merror or use your wifes compact if you have to. There may be a tensioner pully that you might have missed also.
