Since we have some hard core engine builders here, I was wondering if anyone has done any dyno testing with the above cams?

A recent magazine article tested the top 5 selling Comp cams in chevy profiles and the Thumper turned out to produce a decent amount of power. I've also seen ads touting the advanced profile of the Lunati Voodoos and how they are supposed to provide more area under the curve. I'm wondering how these would compare with an equivilant mopar lobe and how they would stack up against old favorites like Engle or Hughes.

Anyone?

I read that article...the thumper was the only roller cam of the bunch. Seems like an apples to oranges comparison to me.

I used to be a frequent of a few chevy boards back in the day and never heard a complaint about the CompCams, as long as you picked the right one for your application. VooDoos on the other hand always seemed to be wiping lobes for almost no reason and at any time

There are a lot of people who are very happy with their Voodoo cams.

I had a comp cam and went to a lunati voodoo on my last engine. My brother made the same switch. Nothing wrong with comp cams products, but I don't like being put on hold for 40 minutes + on two seperate occasions. Until the tech line service is fixed I'll never go back to them again.

back in the day,,,,before the voodoo, thumper or xtreme E...there was hughes engines. they had the big lift cams compatible with 1.6 rockers, and you could go insane with lift.

some cams dont recommend 1.6 ratio rockers.

a hughes', you get a RV 260(210@.050) degree cam with .558" lift. the guys a madman.

Not too concerned with having a certain sound. I'm wondering since these cams are claiming new lobe designs, do they out power older designs with proven track records.

Anyone who has swapped to Thumper or Voodoo, do you have any before/after strip speeds?

the voodoo cams have lobes for the mopar 904 lifter bores

I run the 60710 roller cam

258/264
204/213
.485/.485 lift

in a low comp 88 318 with 360 heads

very nice on the street woke it right up,cant hear it,but is just right in my heavy street truck

lunatii springs are doubles with a damper,so keep that in mind if swaping

the comp 901 springs droped on and used stock seals/retainers

and are with in 10 .LBS of the lunati spring specs

the larger mopar lifter is how they get more under the curve (so I am told)

the thumper needs 9.5 or more comp,3000+ stall and steep gears

sounds very mean and makes some good power though

Back in the day, thats funny. I guess way back, like late 1970's early 1980's Crower had some of the most agressive Mopar cams. Then Hughes engines really did a good job making a wide selection of agressive 0.904" tappet lobe/cam profiles. In the early 1990's Comp finally starting offering the XE cams then the XEH Mopar cams. I'm not sure how long Launiti has been offering the Voodoo cams?

Anyhow, I don't believe in any 'magic' cam. I would guess if you dyno tested simular duration cams from all the manufacturers mention above there would only be a small difference in power?

If you are interested in the VooDoo and Thumper cams you should check out our new Hughes Engines Whiplash cams. Ground specifically for the .904" lifter and will shake your eyeballs out. Tons of low end torque and a lot of fun to drive!

Voodoos are Designed by Harold Brookshire the Ex owner of Ultradyne, Harold went to Lunati after Ultradyne went under, We know that stuff flat out worked. "Area Under the Curve" that right out of the old Ultradyne Catalog.

I don't want to mis-use the forum to do ads. Check out our website ( http://www.hughesengines.com/partDetail.asp?partID=13635&eTypeID=14)or give us a call and we can get into more details on the Whiplash cams.
Thanks,
Kevin

Yeah, the originator of that design idea (meanign using a rate of lift for the wider lifter base is "Ultradyne" Harold. From as I recall back in the 70s.

Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.
