I know that even if you use the best products for a motor on market doesn't mean you'll make a ton of power so curious to hear about the best combos you've found. Doesnt have to be the most power or the motor that got you the fastest et just a motor that the combo was spot on and eveything worked great together. List cam, heads, compression, carb and ect please. Thanks

This one was pretty good.
Needed more than a 1/4 race cam.

Maybe a little less timing.
But the split rods had to go.

The new twisted rod didn't work out either.

A como that did work
Basic 499 ci
Indy SR heads ported
Indy intake
Holley Dominator
MSD Ignition
Comp Solid Cam with around 650 lift

Car with this combo ran 9.50's

Here's a good low budget combo I ran for a few years. Went 11.40s at 117 mph in a 3700# cuda, driven on the street all the time.

440 w/ ported 915s
12:1 w/ Ross flattops
509/292 purpleshaft, stock pushrods and rockers
E-brock RPM, 830 holley
full exhaust w/ the factory cuda tips
727, 10" TCI streetfighter converter
4.10s and 28x10.5 tires

With a little nitrous it went mid 10s.

CHIP
'70 hemicuda, 575" Hemi, 727, Dana 60
'69 road runner, 440-6, 18 spline 4 speed, Dana 60
'71 Demon, 340, low gear 904, 8.75
'73 Chrysler New Yorker, 440, 727, 8.75
'90 Chevy 454SS Silverado, 476" BBC, TH400, 14 bolt

Depends on what you are looking for I guess. A good consistant, reliable bracket combo seems to be: 440, 11-12:1 pistons, ported iron or e-heads, 1 7/8" headers, 509 cam (or 557 if you like solid), RPM intake 850DP, 3800-4k stall, manual valve body and 4.10's. Not complicated, not too many high dollar parts and can run well into the 11's in a B-body, high 10's in an a-body.

My 63's combo is close to that and I am very happy with it. It is a .030 over 440 (446) with stock bottom end and KB pistons that give me 10.0 comp and good quench with my 906 heads I ported. I used the solid MP .557 cam and put Isky ductile iron rockers on it. Has the Holley SD and an 850 DP. Hedman 1-3/4 headers with 3" pipes. Dynamic 9.5 converter and I use 4.30's with a 30 x 9 tire. It runs fine on 92 pump and I drive it everywhere. I was looking to get high 11's as I just wanted an 11 second driver that I could drive to the track and have fun . I am very pleased with its best of 11.49 @ over 116 thru the pipes. The car drives great and runs good driving on the street. It really is a fun street/strip car that did not cost big money to build. And I love the fact that it runs fine on 92 pump. No race gas for me. Ron

Same question here. What would determine "best" between an OEM iron-head 440 combination that ran 11.0s on pump gas, or an aftermarket-head 440 combination that ran 10.5s on pump gas? Both were pretty well dialed in and ran strong for what they were.

Get ahold of Al Alguire, and ask him about his B1 Combo. I hear the guy that originally designed it, put a bunch of thought and research into building that motor.

Pound for Pound, considering it is a small displacement, single carb motor, it is one of the most impressive B1 combos I have heard of.

I've never built for max power... I tend to go for
