Is that the Red 72 Cuda? Wayne, why not have your buddy Hyatt build you a clutch?

Yeah you get sticker shock when you find out how much they are. The biggest problem with the clutches is you either have a street car, or a race car. Not much inbetween for a car faster then 10.90's. Street clutches have too much static pressure, and break stuff, and race clutches are too light and slip the disc. Discs and facings get expensive to replace too. No matter wht thou, I'm not switching to no auto...
You hit the nail right on the head......My car's too fast for a street clutch and too slow for a race clutch....plus I like to drive it on the street quite a bit.......
Car's been 127 @ 3,615LBS and I've been 10.69 twice.......If I leave any higher than about 3K the motor runs through the clutch.....For what it costs to buy just a pimp daddy clutch, I could put an auto in it with a good converter and instantly run 10.30's-20's in this Oklahoma heat.......and in November I bet it'd go 10.0's @ 130+.......but Man, I just can't get myself to put an auto in it .......I just LOVE rowing gears too much.....

Try a ZOOM HP, kevlar dual faced disc, it doesn't grab , but won't slip and you'll never wear it out. Two hundred passes and the face's on the disc, flywheel and plate look like new.
it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

I'm running a Ram Power Grip Performance clutch......not the HD....... http://www.ramclutches.com/Products/street%20strip.htm#Powergrip HD Clutch sets
It's only rated to 550HP......and I'm making about 590-600........
I had a McLeod Dual Friction clutch and pressure plate, but it didn't last long either.........
I don't know what kind of trans is in the Cuda, but I think I remember reading it's got an overdrive........I've got a brand new Passon, aluminum case, 18 spline crash box with synchro'd 1st and reverse......The thing shifts like butter.......

This is probably no help, but FWIW. We ran a brand X street strip car back around 1978 that used a McCloud set up, and a pro shifted Super T10. The car did not ET well (11.06) but did turn 133 mph and weighed 3700 lbs with driver. I haven't raced with a stick since, but I am surprised that would be a problem!? Sorry I cannot tell you what setup it was, but I wouldn't think it was high tech? Just good quality race stuff.

I have a Sof-Lok and Jerico in my Cuda. Its a FINELINE between too much clutch and not enough. For minimum E.T`s its the ragged edge. But to just go down the track its not rocket science. Mine MPH`s much better with a stick,e.t.`s about the same.

I had those same thoughts when I ran a stick, then I switched and dropped almost two seconds. Went 10.1 at 139 at 4000# and haven't missed the 4spd since

Yeah, I hear you.........but I'd only pick up about 3-4 tenths, instead of 2 seconds.......... I ran 10.66 @ 127.5 today........ I've been 10.0's with an auto in another car and honestly, it was WAY too boring..........

I can't think of any physical reason why you would pick up w/an auto unles gear ratios/clutch are wrong. Stick transmission should be more efficient. Thats not to say its easy to get everything right, I know I don't, but I'm getting there, or at least I think I'm getting there

I'm assuming that the soft loc is adjustable? if so what are guys like Mike Crow doing for this event- are they loosening off the clutch every time they get to a track? I'm in the same boat as Guys like Mike and Big Squeeze where I need to find a clutch that will serve double duty but I'm really not excited about having to adjust it every time I want to go make some passes after cruising...
soft lok is adjustable, and yes you are loosening it up for the track, tightening it up on the street...depending on how much street driving you do though, you may wear out the sintered iron disc pretty quick. No two cars are the same, but if you get your clutch from a good manufacturer like hyatt or advanced, they will give you an idea to baseline...it will take tuning but once you find that sweet spot, all it takes is the turn of a wrench (or the tool you have for it) to loosen it up and make a pass
totally worth imo

the answer is one car for racing and the other more docile for street. do we really need all that mojo to go cruisin'? A mild rumpity rump cam, simple borg and beck and speedway 87. more than enough to get in trouble with, at least around here. Fun with a porkflite?

Yeah, but I went 10.1 at 138 in a 4000# boat with a 3.73 rear gear on a 9" slick and felt like I was in a dirt track circle jerk car! There was nothing boring about it
