Hello. The engine is a 440. I recently changed out my MSD red cap to a black cap and re-inserted the spark plugs in the manner they were, but now there is blow-back through the carb and backfiring through the exhaust.

I believe I have a wire hooked to the cap in the wrong spot. The number four wire. I've gone over the arrangement several times and when I think I have it just right, same situation. I'm stumped now.

Thank you. I knew how the firing order went. I just did not know how it correlated to the the cap. For your simple response struck something in my mind, so I re-wired counter clockwise on the cap and she fired up.

I did not release it.

It didn't occur to me by your post that it was not running just that you had a wire crossed .
