No you aren't the only one!

Alot of gears have a date code on them...it'd be intresting to see how old it is.

I think they must be pretty old....

I have owned the car for 5 years now,,,,and Bobby ran the car for several years prior to that.....

LOTS of runs on the car in the past 5-8 years......

Local guy is very good at setting gears up...should work out fine.......

Any advise i would give would be worhtless,,,all my rear end setups ended up being a howling success. Seriously though--- this job is for a professional. Definately not for a newbee.

Good to find the damage before it locked up at the stripe, or caused a chain reaction of carnage. I had to laugh at the "howling success" comment. That's my differential rebuilding experience.

UPDATE:

Got the rear back,,,all set up with the new PRO gears,,

Questions

1) Do you guys run a GASKET on the diff cover ? or just lots of gasket adhesive ( was going to use the black gasket material adhesive )

2) What gear lube to run ? My buddy that set it up mentioned the heaviest weight Red Line gear lube i could find....Does anyone have a specific recomendations ? Is there something that Autozone would have,,?

Hope to have it all back together in the next few days...

Going to change the Master Cylinder while i am at since i have to bleed the brakes....

Should be ready for Norwalk,,,,,,,,

Doug

Glad to hear the gear install is done.
Did you need a new pinion bearing (large one)? That can be tough to get off the old pinion, but can sometimes be done.

Doug I use black Mopar RTV and I use 90 weight...
I dont understand why he wants you to use the heaviest
oil... the pro gear is softer to take the shock...
glad your all set again... did you figure out the
tire to fender issue

Thanks guys,,,

Mike, regarding the tires/rims, I ended up getting a different offset rim,,,this took care of it,,moved everything about 3/4-1",,no more risk of snagging a slick i hope.

My buddy mentioned 90 weight as well,,,must be what he refers to as "heavy" weight...

He said the previous gears were set up very well,,,,thinks i had sheared off a bunch of teeth from dry hopping the car out of the water,,he said they could have been like that for a while,,,and i just didnt realize it.

(no Norwalk ?,,,everything OK ? )

Jim,,,
