Hello, I just purchased a 69` 300 part car and found that it has a sensor on the dash that turn the headlights on when in get dark, does anyone know how it works? and what is the option code for it?, I punch the code from the tags but the decoder site does not recognize any of the codes. Thanks....

It is the Safety Sentinel System.
The are a few major components in the system including the photocell in your dash.
The photcell works like the one in a streetlight. When it senses dark, they lights come on,and when it senses light they turn off.
The photocell sends signals to the amplifier that is located below the right side of the dash, and the headlight switch is tied to it.
The other part is another sensor under the hood above the left hideaway headlamp. That dims the headlights from low beam to high beam and vice versa.
At the headlight switch you can set the length of time the lights stay on after the ignition is turned off,and set the sensitivity of the system for the hi-lo beams.
I do not have the code for it,but I had the system in my 68 NYer,and saw it in numerous Imperials and 300's.It was an expensive option offered only on C bodies, and very complicated.Parts are non existent,NOS only and not cheap.Typically when it does not work, usually the photocell is baked, and the amplifier quits. The amplifier is not serviceable and when it goes your headlights work like normal cars headlamp systems.

Wow, I knew I can to the right place, The car has no motor or trans, how can I test the amplifer or photocell or the system to see if it works and if I need to change both what years will they interchange with to find the parts. I assume that this will be hard to tranfer to my 300 if it works ok. what would the system cost if it works? thanks.... Ps. Is that you website? Thanks again...

If you have a battery, hook up the car.???
But I highly recommend getting a shop manual for your car since it has all the troubleshooting and testing of the system.
It is complicated and take too much time here to explain.
The amplifier is the brain of the system.
Cars equipped with this system has a totally different wiring harness under the dash since all exterior lighting goes through the amplifier, additional relays, and different headlamp switch.
It can be swapped out but a lot of work.

Some parts throughout the years did interchange like the photcell in the dash was used up to 1977.
Amplifiers from 1967 and older will not work with newer cars, and some are different than others for the later years.
A parts catalogue and parts interchange guide may come in handy.

Hey, the decoder sites don't even know that K is sometimes a 350hp 440. Why? Cuz it's not a code the musclecars had!

I don't know if Cbarge mentioned it, but there's also a sensitivity knob on the dash near the headlight switch IIRC.

Yes he did, The 69` 300 parts car is highly option . Power disc brakes, power door locks, power deck lid, electric antenna, corning lamps, electric windows and vent windows, foot control for the am fm radio, power 50/50 seats, the safety sentinel system that 68barge mentioned, map light, clock, fender mount turn signals, vinyl top,air conditioner, heater, the only other options that I can recall not having is passenger side mirror, floor console, telecopic tilt wheel which I have, which will make my 300 very highly optioned. But first thing, get liteture and lots and lots of reserch before I tackle that portion. Thank you very much 68barge I appreciate your you taking the time and impress with your knowledge of "C" bodies.thank you too fury fan. Ps. where can I go to find the liteture I will need for this and do they have it on cd like the other mopar. Thanks again....

Sounds like installing a motor and tranny is the easiest thing to do to the parts car,LOL!! compared to removing all the nice options on that loaded puppy.
