Which stroker kit, the 4.15" or 4.25".
I have a 440 source 4.15" stroker kit on a 400 block (499 cid), and I am about to start building my 4.25" stroked 440 in 0.030" over, so it is really a 505cid engine, but uses the long 7.1" rods.
The 4.15 kit went in pretty easy, only had to take a small amount off the oil pickup boss for clearance.
I am hoping the 4.25" kit in the 440 drops in without having to clearance the block? The 7.1" rods use the smaller chevy rod bearing size, so that should help with the clearance issue.
The 400 with the 4.15 kit is more of a high RPM hot street/strip combination with 12.4:1 compression (using the flat top pistons), a decent sized roller cam, and max wedge victor heads.
The 440 with the 4.25" crank is going to be a milider street engine, 10:1 compression(the 17cc dished pistons), hydraulic FT or hydraulic roller cam, and the 440 source stealth heads (I want the look of stock heads.)
With 500 cid, the 906 heads will limit performance. I have even been thinking of getting the stealth heads ported for my mild 440/505 engine, but I doubt I will as the car that engine is going in won't be raced, mostly just street driving/crusing.
