Hello everyone! I've built a 70 Challenger with a basically stock 383. Engine is .040, Purple cam, Edelbroch intake and carb. I believe 916 heads. I've been thinking about going with aluminum cyl heads. The stealth heads are considerably less money than other alumn heads I've priced. Why so much cheaper? I'm I just wasting money? Also, can the original style rockers and shafts be utilized? I really don't want to go too exotic! Thanks for any input on this! Take care, Jeff

I have a set on my 451. Couldn't be happier. They were great, right out of the box. My machinist said they looked better than plenty of Eddy's he's looked at. I changed the locks & retainers to Comp 10*, but I'm running a sizable solid cam. for a street hydraulic, the stock 7's are fine.

The reason they're cheaper is because they're cast in China. They are assembled here in the states. If that bothers you, then buy edelbrocks, which are made 100% in the USA. Personally, I wish the stealths could say made in USA, but I would have bought them either way, because I like the stock look they offer. They've been out for a few years, so there are probobly thousands of sets now in use with plenty of happy customers.

Bottom line: for the money, you CANT beat em.

If that's the case then why won't his majesty sell them bare anymore?

I have a set, they run well and I've had no issues with them. Stock rockers/shafts/pushrods all bolt right on. I just transferred everything off my stock 76 440 heads onto the stealth heads. I used the springs/retainers/locks that came with the stealth heads and run a lunati voodoo 60303 cam without issue.

They are made in china, but don't have the unnecessary aftermarket "bling" look of the edelbrocks.

I remember seeing a post somewhere on the 'net about a guy that ran stock rockers and his were hitting on the retainers.

Mine have been on 3 years.I also changed springs retainers keepers.I run a .588 solid and 4 speed.I run iron rockers adjustable. No problems with mine. The stock stuff would have been OK for a milder setup.Just have a good machinist check them before install. You would have to have any head checked before install to be safe.Rocky

Pretty much out of the box on mine. Machinist check them over and said they were good to go! Over 2000 miles on them with no issues.

Ireland mine were pretty good OOTB also.My machinist did back cut the valves and cleaned them up a bit.He is a perfectionist and pretty good isnt good enough for him though. My labor was 200 bucks for all that he did including adjusting the valve height and installing all the new parts. He said the springs would have been OK for a milder setup.Rocky

2K doesn't even come close to finding out if they're junk or not. Talk to me in another 48k.

I bought a set and had them CNC ported. I have to say, they rock. Still way less than 2k into the whole deal and I'm hoping they will be the last heads I buy. great on my street car and could be used on a race car as well. I put lots of $$ into ported iron heads back in the day, they all cracked eventually. If you would have told me 20 years ago that I would be able to buy complete 440 aluminum heads that flow great for a grand I would have asked what you've been smoking. Just buy a set, you won't be sorry.

Not speaking for anyone else here, but it will be AT LEAST another 20 years before my car rolls 48K miles. 20 years out of a performance part (worst case) is NOT that bad.

The aluminum that the heads are made out of doesn't know that it is 440 Source parts. Once you have them checked by a quality machinist, they are as good as anything IMHO.

Now thats funny!!! LMFAO!!!

I wondered the same thing about buying buying a bare set.

I got a CNC set and Im looking foward to seeing the results when I get the engine assembled. I will have replaced the springs, retainers and locks before they go on.

The CNC heads are super nice. Jeff at Modern does an excellent job porting those heads.

Sorry, have either of you thought about the inventory/stocking issues of bare/assembled. That may have something to do with it beyond the assembly point location.

Not picking a dog in the fight, cause I don't have one, just a point of view from a business perspective.

No, I didnt look at it line by line and disect it and come up with an analyitical opinion, I really dont care enough to think through the logistical issues that it takes to stock heads, I just wondered why they didnt sell them bare is all. It doesnt mater to me either way, I bought what they offered.
