Hey guys. I sold my enclosed trailer last week & have gone back to using my old open trailer. My question. I am interested in getting a new/newer open tilt trailer to haul my bracket car probably this fall after season. Anyone know of any disadvantages of these or thinks to watch for. Hauling a 3K pound car & a few pounds for tools, spare parts, canopy & chairs & grille. All of that will go in the pick-up bed. Wanting at least a 16ft with elect. brakes & a winch. Any info appreciated.

You may GAIN about 3+ mpg with your truck towing. That's what I lost when going from that heavy open to a 26' Pace enclosed.
Yea I towed yesterday with the open & 3 mpg improvement was noted. One of the reasons I decided to go back to an open. 1/4 tank to the track & back. With the 24 ft enclosed Featherlite it was 1/2 tank same track & back. Mainly what I'm asking is any problems using a tilt trailer. Had a guy tell me he heard they where dangerous?

Make sure the locking pin mounts UNDER the tongue and not thru it... I had a snowmobile trailer I bought used and snapped the tongue off it... lost both sleds due to a stupid hole
Well thats good to know. Anyone got anything else I should look for?
Not much to look out for that I'm aware off. Here's some pictures of mine. That's the Pacific ocean in San Fransisco. There's spare tire storage under the bed, places in the corners for tie down storage and a 2" receiver mounted in the tilt bed for a winch. My weather station in a black box is also set under the deck in this picture. Real convenient to leave down ready to pull onto. I leave it down at campgrounds, it's actually safer. After Pikes Peak hill climb, drove this challenger all the way to the top last year!. Grand Canyon. Fenders are removable by hand, but the doors on all cars I've hauled so far have cleared the fenders.

That what I'm looking for. That looks like a real nice & expensive one. How does the pin secure on that one? Also if I may ask what would a trailer like that cost? Thanks

The seller told me he paid $3600 bucks new in 2001. I bought it 3 years ago for $2200 bucks. It came with wooded side stakes also.
There's a large pin and a hand operated latch that holds the bed down. I have unloaded on different ground elevations and never a problem. It is so handy not messing with ramps.
One of my friends lost one of his ramps while he was pulling his open trailer, Not good.
You can see the latches in this picture. The bed is balanced perfectly, I can lift it with 1 finger and is dampened with 2 shocks underneath.

Gary,
Are you sure your tow rig will handle the trailer weight? My guess is you may have less than 34,000 pounds of capacity left.
Nice car, truck and trailer!

Nice car, truck and trailer!
Thanks,
Yea I wanted to make sure I didn't get in trouble with the "tow police".
Decided to sell my enclosed since it was setup to race alcohol and was 49' long. Too long to take my street car with us on vacations.
Plus I discovered it is much more fun having my cars out in the open for people to see , instead of answering questions all day long on the CB, "what's in the trailer"? The truck is a RV which is totally self contained, have stayed in it for up to 2 weeks. It also has huge HP which makes towing a pleasure. Here's my old trailer. Still have 2 dragsters and all support equipment.
