Hey guys,
Just a question here... I've had my challenger running almost 5 years now, carb has never seemed right. Its a 340, bored .030 over, dougs headers, edelbrock performer air gap intake and heads, and a crane cams, .404 lift and .488 duration. What carb do you recommend for it? If you need any more info please let me know. Car currently runs pretty rich, and sometimes will shut off sitting still at a red light.

I'd put a factory 71 Thermoquad back on it, they are awesome carbs and work well with even moderately modified small blocks. A restored one will likely run around $500.00-$600.00 or better, not cheap but worth it IMO for all around driveability and performance.

What is your current carb?

"edelbrock performer air gap intake and heads, and a crane cams, .404 lift and .488 duration."

Is this the correct cam spec's or is it a typo?

The Thermoquad is in fact a really good carb when everything is right on it. I see two problems in your case. The first isn't all that bad, there simply isn't a lot of aftermarket support for them. You just can't get the variety of jets, metering rods and pump squirters that you can for more popular carbs. That said you can probably get what you do need for your application. 2nd. problem is that it won't bolt on to your Air Gap intake without an adapter. As you have no doubt discovered the Air Gap intake is a rather tall manifold [ I use one too ], and if you use an adapter with one it will almost certainly not clear a stock hood. I am not knocking the "T"Quad, but the old reliable 3310 [ 750 vac. sec. ] Holley is hard to beat. You can get a new one from Jegs for $269.99 and there are plenty of Holley and aftermarket parts for them. The last used one I bought cost me $25.00 which is about what a rebuild kit costs. The "T" Quad will probably give better gas mileage, but probably not enough to matter.

Holley 650, 670 or 750

Edelbrock 650 or 750

Take your pick any of them will work fine properly tuned.

QF750DP with annular boosters.....Best carb you could ever put on a 340 or 360. This one might be one for sale in the very near future.

100%. TQ WILL give you a good boost in
power/efficiency/economy. Best all around carb!!
Easy to tune. Best carb for low compression
motors. If you go to an AFB or Holley, think
650-800 cfm depending on the C.R. and state/level
of engine tune.
