looking for some refrences for a trans rebuild shop. I have a hemi 833 transmission that has quite a bit of shaft play. Or is this something i can fix. Thanks
With a service manual, some advice from brewers or passons, and some of the people on this site, I'm sure you could do it yourself. I did two of them. Prior to that I had never done one and both work mint.

Might be normal. They have side play, the pilot bushing/bearing takes care of that when the trans is installed. Is the trans making noise or did you just notice the play while checking out the trans?
I agree. Because of the bearing setup in the front, when the trans is out of the car, play is evident, even on a fresh build. For the engine side of the input shaft, I prefer to use the new style sealed roller bearing setup from a Magnum engine truck---i want to say the part number is 53009180AB. I feel its a better way to go over the pilot bushing.
If have run this trans and it made no noise, its probably all fine inside. However if you do not know the history of the trans, a rebuild wouldn't be a bad idea. Like said, its not really hard to do and can make a world of difference in the feel of the trans when shifting. Some special tools (like flat snapring pliers) are required, but the experience is well worth it.
If you prefer just to send the unit out, in my eyes, Jamie Passon is the best. Unfortunatly, just about everyone went to Carlisle this weekend so you'll probably have to wait a bit to call him.
Outcast Dodge guy.
