I've been fighting a slow leak from my water pump. I pulled it about 3 times in the past to reseal it. Today I pulled the plate, cleaned everything up and noticed the plate has a slight bow. I measured it and it's 1/4" thick aluminum. I'm thinking of getting another plate made that's 3/8" thick 6061 T6. Just wondering if I should buy a new plate and if it's worth the expense in the hope of fixing this stupid seep. S&W is right around the corner so I could probably have them use my old one as a template and make it on the water jet. Is 3/8" thick more typical than a 1/4" plate?

A friend of mine has 3/8" in his dart and doesn't seem to have any issues. I would think 1/4" to be a little lite.

Guess I should have mentioned it's on a 440 as well. This sucks. Spent the day working on this in 100deg heat and didn't get it back together as I had hoped.

Cool, thanks for the feedback. Now to see if S&W can do a quick turnaround since they're a few miles away.

Are you using gaskets... they tend to leak... I just
use a good silicone... no more leaks... a 1/4" is thick
enough for what its doing... its holding up the engine
and pulls on the drivers side frame rail while pushing
down on the pass rail... dont expect it to hold the
fore/aft load of the launch... I use to use 1/4" for
a long time till I came down hard and it bent, now
I use 3/8"
