I've got power brakes on a 70' B-Body. It's a completely rotisserie restored car with everything NEW.

The brake pedal is almost to the floor and the brakes are barely working. When you press on the brake you get a loud HSSSSSSsssss coming from pedal . The brake system is 100% NEW and was just bled.

Could I have a faulty brake booster??

I thought that even with power brakes if the booster goes bad you still have a brake system but it's manual. This thing has NO BRAKES!!!

Thanks,

Steve

First thing is to make sure your brake shoes are properly adjusted, if they are, check for leaks, if no leaks you have a bad master cylinder.

Well no brakes and hard brakes are two different things. If you have a faulty booster, you should be able to stop it with effort (a lot). I am assuming it is only hissing with the engine running, correct? (faulty booster)

Before jumping to the conclusion of a faulty booster, make sure all drum shoes are adjusted properly, I'll assume the system and MASTER have been properly bleed, also make sure the adjustable pushrod assy between the booster and master is adjusted correctly, otherwise brakes can drag due to residual pressure, or no engagement due to excessive clearance from the pushrod

Generally you need .060-.080 clearance for most Mopar drum or disc/drum applications
