Hi Folks, This is Jim from JS Restorations. I mainly specialize in Cuda and Challenger electrical restorations of the full line of switches and relays, rear window defoggers, non A/C heater boxes, and harness repair. Dash heater control panel and A/C control panel re-lettering and plastic grille restorations. Dash, front and rear lens polishing. I have lots of used parts, too. I am increasing the line of switch restorations to include the B body cars. I have restored parts to offer or I can restore your parts. If there is something you are looking for, please feel free to email at jsrestorations@rocketmail.com or call 1.412.295.1333. I will be attending Carlisle at booth D27 & the Nats at booth K1 and I look forward to meeting you at one of these shows. Thank you for checking this thread. Here are pictures of some of the restoration work that I do. How about the b body dimmers, do you have any of those currently?
Would you be willing to sell a small parts kit for someone wanting to rebuild one at home?
thanks
Thank you for the inquiry. I have received lots of inquiries about restoring the B body 68 - 70 switches. Believe me, they are not ready to offer, but are on my radar screen.

Very nice work - organization is everything!
Do you deal with clutch pedal/starter-cut switches?

I have only been asked one time before and restored a set of power window switches. Nobody ever asked about the power window wiring or cruise control. Please send me an email if you would like to discuss these further. Thank you for asking.

Thank you! I have only been asked one time to and restored one clutch switch. This part is not a very often requested item, either. Please send me an email if you would like to discuss this further. Thank you for asking.

Thank you Darren and William. The last piece of the puzzle for the B body switches is getting the original plastic knobs rechromed. I was not at all satisfied with the quality of the chroming and the turn around time of the last company I was trying to work with. I believe I have found a very reputable company this time and samples are in the works.

Very nice work
Would you consider restoring fuel sending units? This is a huge issue since "the industry" has not made accurate units in ages.
The rheostat windings are tricky, if you got one opened up you'd see it immediately. Also the contact seems to fail, so maybe a better design is possible?
Thank you!
Yes, I have had to open those and adjust them to get back to -12 and -70 ohms. You're right that not many new ones read correctly out of the box and it was a bad design from their inception.

Jim,
Would you rework a 68 b body ignition switch? Thanks
Thank you for asking. If you have it removed and could let me see a couple of pictures of it’s condition and what is not working properly would be good. You could send the pictures to: jsrestorations@rocketmail.com

Excellent shine from those lenses buddy. You produce an awesome service and your product and skills speak for themselves, very nice work. Once i get my wiring sorted out and all the switches and the rest of what i need doing, i will be able to trade in my old ride for something with even more roar than my old dinosaur. Will be talking to you soon from Australia

Hi Jim,
I see you repair interior plastics. It looks as if you have nailed the textured finish on the switch panels and under gauge panels. Do you have any other pictures you could post of the textured finish on panels you have repaired please< such as the radio panels and A/C panels and Non-Rallye control unit panels. It looks like i will have to send some plastics back to the USA for a touch of class from your good self, love your work . Thanks, Kenny.

Thank you, Kenny. Here is something slightly different from your request.
This is an order I received to make an E body rallye heater delete panel delivered in primer. The customer will be installing three round gauges and applying the finish coat. Here’s what I built from two non rallye panels.

Jim
Hi Jim WOW
Your workmanship really is outstanding. Looks like a void in the market that has been needed to be filled has finally has come with your ability to provide any panel needed weather it be custom or original with such detail work to make pieces look as new condition.
I will be in touch with you shortly to place an order, i hope business is good, i am thinking you would be swamped with request from both Country wide and World wide.
Keep up the amazing work, void filled and with class, well done JS Restorations.

I hope you like this one. This was a request from Norway to see if I could make these work again, as is. Any guesses on what car they went back into? If you think it was from a 60's car, well no.

Jim
Hey Jim,
As for these switches you posted. I would guess they came in a mid 50's car, they look as if they are a little larger than the 60's stuff and i know that Mopar released Power everything in the 50's, you name it the released it with POWER, even to the point there was a dash mounted pod that was a light sensor that would dip your lights automatically when an approaching car came toward you.........

Nice work Jim! I have a 1972 Plymouth Satellite Heater/AC control I need restored. It is all intact, never taken apart. It is just aged and I need it brand new looking and working again. Ball park me on it if you would please. Thanks! Steve Reid 562-254-5340 moparbros@yahoo.com

Sorry for the late reply. I’ve been a bit under the weather lately and put a post in the General section a few weeks ago. I will be trying to reply to everyone shortly. It’s just taking a bit longer than I expected to recover. Great to hear from you, Russ and thank you very much. I’m glad the see you’re out stinging with the Bee! Thank you, Steve. I will be in touch. There is a subtle clearance difference between a 2770378 and 2770380 wiper switch. The E body shaft is 3/32” longer between the threads and the D channel than the A body shaft. I now have an active contest in the Moparts General section for you to be able to win a restored A, B, C or E body part. Contest rules are posted there, too. Good luck. Thank you Herve! I look forward to seeing some pictures with your car parked by La Tour Eiffel and Arc de Triomphe. Jim

Amazing work Jim, again! I'll hope to get some more work one of these days since I have power windows that act up sometimes. Has anyone ever asked about working on Overhead console lights from SE and Gran Coupes (as well as some Sea Bodies) It got me thinking after seeing your work that this is one area that could use some action.

Thank you! I can help you with the power windows. I do work on the SE - GC overhead console lights and wiring. Email or phone is the best way to contact me.
Just as a note, a friend of mine Claude, is now making reproduction overhead fiberglass headliners, consoles and sail panels. His first showing was at the Nats this year. I saw them and they are beautiful. Available with or without headliner material. Here's a contact for him: www.seheadliners.com

I finally found the picture I took of the restored grille on page 1 mounted on the car. Jackie was invited to display her car this year at Carlisle. Just as a note, I do not ship grilles I work on. All of the grilles shown were handed to me, and I handed them back to the owner after the restoration. If we can find a mutual place to meet within the Pittsburgh PA tri state area, I will be glad to look into the restoration with you. Jim

Thank you very much. I appreciate it!
I usually chat with the owner and discuss what their needs and goals are then I will give an estimate. I really don’t have a price list due to needing to see what needs restored and what condition the part is in. I use a commercial plating service for dichromate, clear zinc and black oxide. If someone asks for something that I don’t provide a service for, I am glad to make recommendations to the owner of people that special in a particular service or part for restoration.
I am asked a lot about the differences between searching for NOS electrical parts or restoring their parts. First off, you can never be sure how a forty to fifty year old part was stored over time. Those parts can have as much corrosion as the parts installed on the car. Second, who will accept a NOS electrical part for return that may not work properly? You can’t blame them. Once installed, it really isn’t NOS any longer. Third the cost. NOS electrical parts can command “unobtainium” prices. My restoration work costs less restore what you already have than chasing NOS Mopar parts, too.

Hey Scott, you just had to spell DR out! Delco Remy? Slowly I turned, step by step, inch by inch…
Here is an example since I just posted this restored DR1114447 next to a NOS DR1114421 fast idle solenoid for comparison.

I can be competitive, but the real difference I offer is a service to people that really want to keep their car as original as possible. To start, I ask for some pictures and a short overview of condition of the harness sent to my email address. Then I can give you an estimate.

Jim, I think I inadvertently put you on the spot by questioning the price. You're right, service is key and I just don't want to slap on reproduction parts. Original as possible is a good thing.
BTW, what about the Chrysler part tags on the harnesses? Do you replace them or try to keep the originals?

BTW, what about the Chrysler part tags on the harnesses? Do you replace them or try to keep the originals?
He carefully removed and replaced mine, nice added touch!

I've known of JS Restorations (Jim) for a few years now and he's the person I go to for answers when it has to be right - hands down. I can't say enough good things about his approach to business, auto restoration, and life. He's helped me A TON with my 70' Hemicuda Convertible tribute - there's hardly a part of the car he hasn't touched. Wiring, switches, dash parts, heater, steering column, the list goes on and on.
From a business perspective – Jim's attention to detail, professionalism, and customer service are above all.
From a personal perspective – Jim is a stand-up guy and will go the extra mile for people.
To Jim - I truly appreciate all that you've done for me and for keeping the faith. Keep up the GREAT WORK! BTW, I love your website teaser (www.jsrestorations.com) and can't wait for the full blown reveal!

You are such a show off Jim. Thx for all the relays and ebody dimmer switches you did for me, some of the best work I've ever seen, a true work of art.
He is a show off isn't he? LOL I know if I'm selling a motor and someone needs a switch, of any kind, he's my go to for the job. I'd never seen one of his switches, but when I got the first one, opened the box and saw it, I was awestruck...it was da bomb. Beautiful workmanship. I don't think twice about recommending Jim for any work that he's willing to take on.

Holy cow Jim. I had no idea you were doing harness and fuse box work. My Challenger Dash harness will need work in the future and I may have a couple truck fuse boxes to send to you for expirementation.... I still can't get over how beautiful my Headlight and dimmer switches turned out.

It’s been a while since an update, so I thought I would post these couple of pictures. This pile of plastic needed turned back into a grille and is what I started with… To date, I have the grille test fitted with the headlight doors and surround trim mounted. I have about a month’s wait before the body shop will have the metal mounting frame available for that test fit, before finishing. Yes, two vertical bars are missing on purpose at the center bottom. Later, it will become clear why they are not installed at this time. Usually, I show pictures from the very beginning of what is received, disassembled, restoration of individual parts, to the completed item that is returned to the client. This grille will be no different, once completed. I will show the detail pictures along the way. Although I really enjoy reconstructing and restoring grilles, after this one is completed, I will no longer be accepting any grilles. They demand too much time to produce. So, I thought I would end with one of the most iconic Mopars and one of my most favorites, a 1968 Dodge Charger R/T. And yes, It's got a Hemi! Why I am showing these pictures now is to really say how much I appreciate the current client JSR orders that have encountered a delay while I tried to squeeze this in. I want to say THANK YOU to all for your patience. Jim

In light of reading some suggestions on how to “Band-Aid fix” a dash dimmer switch or some offerings of a “rebuilt” dash dimmer switch, I put together a few videos and some pictures. This addresses only one aspect in hopes that it will deter the usage of epoxy for re-installing old scorched resistor coils back into their porcelain mounting trays. Did you ever finish driving your car and for some reason had to open the hood and touch the ballast resistor on the firewall? Feels good, doesn’t it! The same thing can happen with a dash dimmer switch. If the switch is working properly or restored correctly, there will be no resistance in the full on position. No heat is occurring because there is nothing in the way of holding back any current. When the dimming effect of using resistance the switch was designed for comes into play by turning the dial counter-clockwise or due to corrosion, heat builds up. It’s just simple physics. I made four short videos that tell the story better than me. The first up is an original unrestored E body dash dimmer switch that has one of the typical problems not working in the full on position, but turning the dial counter-clockwise slightly to get some light output. Nothing special used, just a car battery driving this dimmer with a headlight bulb as a light source instead of a string of bulbs in parallel. The second video shows a dried piece of epoxy touching the resistor coil. It is about a minute long, but half way through, you can see the epoxy melting until falling off. No problem fast forwarding if you don’t like to watch paint dry or grass grow. The third video is picking up the piece that melted off due to heat showing the burn marks. The fourth video speaks for itself. Before I started to offer my version of a “restored”, not just a "rebuilt", dash dimmer switch, I asked myself this question. “Is there any possibility of this switch catching on fire?” Epoxy wasn’t even an option to test. Yes, I am a hoarder. I saved the very piece of wood I used along with a propane torch to see if I could possibly catch what I use to install my new custom made 302 stainless steel resistor coils on fire. The answer was and still is no. However, I did catch the wood on fire! Sorry, I don’t kiss and tell, so please don’t ask what I use or how I do it. Be assured that a JS Restoration will have either version of B body thumbwheel dash dimmer switch and the E body dash dimmer switch each fitted with replacement 302 stainless steel resistor coils (Made in the USA) working like new, producing the light output the factory intended with the correct bulbs specified in their service manual. Thank you for reading and watching these videos and looking at the pictures. If only one car can be saved from any possible damage, it was worth posting. Jim

Nothing new to show with this post, but it is time to draw a line in the sand. For all of past, continuing and future clients, JSR has always tried and will continue help troubleshoot electrical issues to determine, before buying any parts, whether the electrical issue(s) may be causing a certain problem or problems that a restored part may not necessarily correct.
For instance it could be something as simple as corrosion and grounding can cause many strange issues. Again I will be glad to help anyone with a stock Mopar setup. Try getting that type of support from on line auction site sellers. However, JSR will no longer support via email or phone any of these universal aftermarket wiring kits, aftermarket switches or aftermarket gauges being installed into a Mopar. If or when tech support is required, please contact the vendor who sold you any of those items in question. Here’s another for instance original Mopar parts scenario. There is a reason why Chrysler engineered headlight and wiper switches with internal circuit breakers, instead of in line fuses. Thank you for your understanding. Jim

Well, I have just made a decision that will be affecting the course of day to day business beginning now and will continue for approximately the next three to four months for JS Restorations. I will not be accepting any new business for short term restoration work during this time.
JSR has reached a capacity level that will require some new work down time to concentrate on completing existing orders. No part restoration orders have or will ever be compromised to increase speed at the cost of diminishing quality.
Also, JSR will be discontinuing any plastic work orders, being restorations or custom made items including grilles, gauge clusters, switch panels, heater control panels, radio panels or radio face plates. Again, all existing orders will be completed.
I will consider accepting new electrical restoration work that will have a longer range turn around window during this period. A for instance would be a car going through an entire restoration process where electrical work can be scheduled with a negotiated completion date.
Once these current orders are completed, I will make another announcement when a “business as usual” mode is back in place. I will have some new items that I will be offering for restoration, too.
Last, but not least, I would like to thank all of the clients with current orders and those with completed orders and the referrals to their friends. This has truly been a blessed experience to serve each and every one of you.
Jim

Thank you Mike and Shawn. Yes, I am working through the backlog. Minimum of twelves plus, six and a half days a week. Here is a picture of some components to a switch that I missed showcasing from beginning to end. I have been restoring these right along with all the others. I will get that done soon. Any ideas what switch uses these components? I make these rivets and have the washers custom made along with one other custom part. If I show that last custom part would be a dead give away. Jim

Are you taking orders yet to rebuild 70 B Body thumbwheel dimmer switch yet? How Much? Thank you for your inquiry. Email reply sent your profile address, which is the easiest way to correspond with me. The purpose of this thread primarily is a photo documentary to show some of the different restoration services offered. Jim

Looks great. Look forward to getting my stuff back Thank you Brian! I'm on it. I usually don’t get to see these for very long after restoration and completion. They just get packed and shipped, so I thought I would snap a couple pictures. I also have to give kudos to Dave Patik for the best E body rallye cluster woodgrain switch and gauge panels offered. Hello Folks,
It has been business, as usual, with JS Restorations.
Obviously, there are some technical difficulties with the loss of pictures on this entire thread. I have been in touch with Photobucket and have been assured that all of my uploaded images are fine. However, Photobucket is working on finishing some major network issues that have occurred on their end.
If anyone is looking for something specific, please feel free to contact me via phone: 1.412.295.1333 EST or via email: jsrestorations@rocketmail.com
Hopefully, this will be resolved quickly.
Thank you for your understanding.
Jim -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Photobucket Team (Photobucket Support) Jan 3, 2:05 PM MST Our team has nearly resolved all site issues caused by the outage, however, some accounts are still experiencing issues. Unfortunately, your account is one of the accounts that are still affected. Our team has been working non-stop to resolve all remaining site issues.
We currently don't have an estimated time when these issues will be fixed but we are hoping that this will be resolved as soon as possible. We'll reach back out to you once we have an update. Again, our apologies for the inconvenience this is causing you.

Hello,
We haven’t seen an update in about a year. How are things going for you during the pandemic?
Do you have any lead times for getting work completed? In addition, can you provide a list of services that are available?
Thanks!

Thank you for your post and appreciate the concern. I will try to keep this short. The 2020 year for me can be summed up in one word. Overwhelming. I just took a look at the last date of my posting which was 1.4.20. I have had no issues with Covid 19. Well, the very next day, I got hit with a heart attack on Sunday night. I didn’t know what happened, but I was lying in bed watching TV and felt like I was hit in my upper chest by a 300 pound defensive lineman. I needed emergency surgery that night and two weeks later needed a scheduled second surgery since there would have been too much to endure at one time. The Cardiologist had the chat after my first surgery with my wife and son to give a prognosis and one of his sentences were, (and I quote) “Jim’s one lucky bast*#%d!" LOL!!! It’s true. Through 2020, I only concentrated on completing in house orders. Fast forward to now. I am back to work, by myself of course. I can not give a lead time for getting work done. Each order request is always different. The best way to develop a time line is with some negation of the client’s request and my work load. I have prepared a JSR Scope of Services PDF document that I would typically send out via email to client requests. I should have posted this a long time ago. Hopefully, this list will help you and others on what services are available. I will try to post this next. Thanks again for asking! Jim

I has been a while since I posted some pictures. Most of the parts that I restore wind up buried somewhere in the car, so I thought this would be a piece of a part that does remain visible. I restore the 70 one year only turn signal switches and along with that refinish the knob, too. I currently have four 70 Cuda, Challenger only that are being restored. There are no repops available for 1970 versions and the cheapo repop turns signal knobs are much taller than the originals, although you will be told that it fits the 1970. My hats off to these people that want to keep their 70 cars as original as possible by having their 2947905 turn signal switches restored. ![[Linked Image]](https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/gg169/Slotts/IMG_3193.jpg) On a post dated 5.18.15 on this thread shows the complete restoration of a 2947905 turn signal switch. Again, mostly all of that restoration work gets hidden in a steering column. Most folks will know about this but it is worth mentioning for someone looking for an original 70 E body or the other versions for the 2947509 A, B and C body versions or the 2947503 for the C body with the added three wire ribbon cable that powered the front cornering lights. Because of the wide diameter crush can used on the E body, the triangle points away from the column and pulls out to turn on the four way flashers. The others have the triangle pointing toward the steering column and needs pushed in to turn on the four way flashers. ![[Linked Image]](https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/gg169/Slotts/IMG_3195.jpg) I added a third picture of the back of these two versions so you can see the difference in the wiring positions. ![[Linked Image]](https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/gg169/Slotts/IMG_3196.jpg) Hopefully, if the part number tag is removed, you can feel more confident purchasing correct one of these factory 1970 turn signal switches for your model car without the “whoopsie†surprise! Lastly, it is good to still be able to offer these electrical restorations for the Mopars! THANK YOU to all of the well wishers that have contacted me. I really appreciated that! Jim
