Well, if your wallet wasn't empty from purchasing the "thunder juice", I'm guessing it would be after expermenting with it. Just pouring it in would be disasterious. It is mostly an oxygen carrying agent. It would have a lot of the same effects as spraying no2 with out adding more fuel or changing timing, compression ect. Kinda like when you pull the handle on a cutting torch.

That and if you dont know what you are doing it will make a nice grenade. My buddy had a nitro Harley. They put a new motor in and tried to start it.It stalled and they didnt clear it before they tried a restart. There are still pieces of it in the garage wall. That was an instant 15K piece of junk.Rocky

Brian. That sounds reallllly bad. My friend posed the question to me and the only thing I knew about it was it was bad azz when used in a 500 cubic inch nitro hemi. We were wondering what it would do in a junk stock 383. Don't care if it blows up just having "stupid" fun.

Well, put it this way. Nitro is actually classified as a "high explosive".

Do some research on the 'net. There is some really good stuff out there, but you have to weed through all the junk where people ask if they can run it in their (insert brand name) street car.

Also check into the special handling requirements and remember that the feds keep an eye on everyone who buys or tries to buy the stuff.

They clam 5-7% more power.

Nitro,.. to put it in perspective. An 8000 HP T/F engine would only be 1200-1500 horse under gasoline. Heard that from a crew chief.. Or was it 1500-1800? I forget, but you get the picture of the volatility of the stuff.. I think the only guy, or one of the few here that actually run it is the Challenger member in Cinci. He has some really cool/expensive toys..

The guys that ran my car back in the day got 90 runs out of one stock 426 block in the funny car on a pretty high load, IIRC around 90%+... That was the best they did. lol. It used to torch the heads between the ex. port and the spark plug hole at least once a week. They got heads by the pallet load. didn't even bother porting them..

Most of what you hear about how evil nitro is comes from people who either never used it, or didn't bother to do their homework.
Forget about using nitro in any sort of gasoline application. The two fuels are not compatible. Low percentages in an alcohol combination (up to 10 to 15% or so) will give you a little cack, a bunch of good smell and just enough seat of the pants to know something good is in the mix.
Once you venture into the 20% range, you've got to look at getting fat on the jets and tuning can be a little tricky. The zone between 30 and 70 percent is a hard one to get on top of. Motor is not sure whether it's a fat alky burner of a lean fueler. It's gonna be lazy or angry.
Climb the hump to the 80 percent zone, and then you've got the real thing...and if you ever decide to go that far, PM me and I'll hook you up good.

Was told to use it with my Terminators would only have to go down about 4-6 sizes (make it put more fuel in)on the return pill and not have to change the nozzels.
It really sounds good but I'm Scared to try it.

I asked Jay Payne that question once..

He said "Why... Don't you like your motor"??

That ended that conversation..

Chris..

I was at the drags many years ago. A Gremlin running on alcohol was in the burnout box. Just as he was easing out of it there was a big bang as he drove over his crank. He'd been sneaking some nitro into the fuel cell and thought he had a handle on it. ( where's the mushroom cloud smilely when you need it?) Dave

I don't think so, I have read the saga about about how much fertilzer (Amonia Nitrate) Timothy bought and how many different stores he bought it from and how much deisel fuel he soak into the fertilzer to make that truck bomb. Maybe some scribe related the energy from that truck bomb to two 55 gallons drums of nitro, and which nitro where they talking about, Nitroglycerin or nitromethane?

The bomb was made from fertilizer (ammonium nitrate) and nitro. A lot more than a couple 55 gal drums worth. I think two of the drums were ANFO but the majority were using nitromethane. Nitromethane carries more energy by mass than TNT, but the, I forget the term for it, explosion velocity is slower..
